RESULTS: Will THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Beat THE AVENGERS At The Box Office?

Nearly 12,000 of you voted when asked whether or not you think The Dark Knight Rises will be able to beat the record breaking run of Marvel's The Avengers and the results may just end up surprising you!

Feature Opinion

Well, here's hoping that these results will put an end to the unnecessary war between "Marvelites" and "Nolanites". While a fairly substantial majority of you decided that The Avengers would NOT be beaten at the box office by The Dark Knight Rises; the yes, no and maybe options were completely crushed by the fourth option that it simply doesn't matter. Why? Well, as it says below, it's because WE are the real winners here. While it seems that there will always be mediocre comic book adaptations (here's looking at you Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance), there's no getting around the fact that the films which do well financially and are actually GOOD deserve our money because it means we get more of them. Does any "Marvelite" really want Warner Bros. to stop making DC movies? Does any "Nolanite" really want Marvel to stop bringing their characters to the big screen? If your answer is yes to either of those questions, you may need to ask yourself whether or not you really are a true comic book lover...

The DC vs Marvel war is just a fun distraction while we wait for movies to come out. We are all the same in the dark of the theater.

Awesome point at the end of that summary Josh. So true. I'm rooting for both to succeed, then everybody's a winner.

I don't think that it will beat Avengers at the box office, but I don't think that means TDKR can't beat Avengers in terms of quality. I mean, I'm a Marvel guy, but Nolan is a FANTASTIC filmmaker. No reason to think that TDKR won't be great.

It's really not going to put a stop to these idiots at all, because they aren't (or most of them aren't) arguing over which will make the most money, but which is the better movie. And yes, apparently Avengers is..already.

I want TDKR to succeed critically and financially, hopefully topping TDK's numbers. But, I think the Avengers has the appeal to break ALL of the box office records. Dethrone Titanic!!!

we all win but honestly if they were released on the same weekend Avengers would win merely because the audience range is wider, the movie is more kid friendly and date friendly. You can't take an 8yr old to a Nolan Bat flick- period.
The bigger concern for Nolanites should be...what do you do after this summer? Besides replaying his trilogy over and over on your home dvd player.

I think the haters on both sides finally arrived at the logical conlusion of this fight: the rest of us are just getting sick of the war between DC/WB and Marvel/Disney and now we can enjoy all these films as a community, as we should.

The "divide" exists only because of one CBM that broke the mold which is The Dark Knight. Before TDK came about, CBM fans were kumbaya-ing in harmony over any CBM that actual held it's own as a decent feature film, which very much so included Batman Begins. The proof is in the pudding, most "Marvelites" prefer Batman Begins over TDK. Only, the divide split way out of proportion when the promise of the Avengers was made aong side Nolan deciding to finally finish his trilogy. So this "war", no matter how we look at it, will only end when Nolan hangs up his cowl. Believe me, MAN OF STEEL will be the cbm to bring back harmony, if not the reboot of Batman.

Goomba makes a valid point IMO.

Sorry but I really cannot support nolanverse. I think it's detrimental to the comicbook superhero genre. I want the genre to be dominated by real comicbook superhero movies that embrace and uplift the genre, not 'transcend' and scorn it.

Your typical marvelite tools like Goomba, Coldblood, Intruder, JackBauer, AmazingHispterMan, 0Sage, etc, are what make this war seem like a joke. They try to hard to put themselves above Nolan films that they need to rebel against it like a flame war. Meh, they deserve no pity. It's all a bunch of bullshit if you ask me.

I'm with Goomba/Coldblood/Teabag. We root for Avengers because we want Batman to go back to his cbm roots (i.e. Batman Begins). MAN OF STEEL is my next most anticipated film since Avengers.

I personally couldn't give a shit how much TDKR makes. It's Nolan's last one so either way it's being rebooted. All I care about is a great movie, which I'm fairly certain it will be.
