AVENGERS could possible break Avatar's record in the box office:

Avatar Box Office Numbers
Theatrical Performance
Domestic Box Office $760,507,625
International Box Office $2,023,411,357
Worldwide Box Office $2,783,918,982

Anyone agree??? Comments welcome:

I really hope that the " Aliens" don't turn out to be frost giants or somthing like that. Cuz that would be totally lame.

@Hulk2008

No. The reason Avatar did so well was the lack of competition, and comparisons to Titanic. Also, it got a lot of people talking about it's "message" and people were curious to see what is all the fuss is about. The Avengers will do well, but it will come nowhere close to Avatar.

Plus the Avengers carries the stigma of being a true comic book movie, and a lot of older viewers who don't have kids (I'm talking late 30's- early 60's) probably won't check it out, unlike Avatar. Avatar appealed to a much, much wider demographic.

There aren't any new images here, ok they're standees instead of high resolution posters that we've already seen but I don't see why this excites so many people. Don't get me wrong I'm excited to see the Avengers but these images aren't anything new.

So, we get two shots of Hawkeye and only one shot of Scarjo's fine self in the background? WTF?

It would be difficult to garner Avatar or Titanic money considering the length of time in theaters and the re-releases. My single wish is for a comic book movie to take down the love boat but it won't happen.

I am 48 years old or young depending on how you look at it.
And I would be going to see this regardless of having kids.
In fact I think my age group may be the nostalgia kick this movie recieves on release.

I do have young kids though and will drag them along to moan and groan through the movie!
ha!

@ Ridiculousfanboydemands - I'm squarely in that age group you mentioned above, and I can tell you I am more pumped for this than when I was 7 years old and saw the first Superman trailer starring Christopher Reeves (also probably why I don't have any children I am aware of!).

@theTrojan - Exactly. These are the charactors I read about as a young buck, and children or not, my ass has a very important date with an uncomfortable theater chair May 4th.

PS- Avatar sucked, I liked South Park's 'Dances with Smurfs' better.
