Earlier this week, we learned that Marvel Studios is officially moving ahead with a Thunderbolts movie. It's been rumoured for years, but appearances from Valentina Allegra de Fontaine in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and Black Widow have already started laying the groundwork for a team of anti-heroes/villains to head into action in place of The Avengers.

Jake Schreier (Robot & Frank) will direct, while we'd heard that Black Widow scribe Eric Pearson had been tapped to pen the screenplay. The latter has now confirmed his involvement in an Instagram Story in which he shared a screenshot of Deadline's report alongside the caption, "Guess we can finally talk about it!"

John Walker, a.k.a. U.S. Agent, appears to be Val's only confirmed recruit thus far, though she has a working relationship with Yelena Belova as well.

Could her next recruit be revealed in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Scooper Charles Murphy suggested that might be the case during a recent exchange with one of his Twitter followers. Making it clear that a resurrected Erik Killmonger won't be part of the Thunderbolts, he left it open to interpretation when it came to who it will be. Namor the Submariner would be one heck of an exciting addition to the team, though we'll have to wait and see on that front.

Who would your dream roster of Thunderbolts in the MCU be? Let us know your thoughts down in the comments section.

Wouldn’t mind them taking some liberties with this film. Deadpool as part of the team would be great fun. Even using it to introduce someone like Wolverine as the villain. Government experiment gone wrong. Bring in a team to takedown Wolverine. Would be great fun.

@PhoenixBlade - you bring in Deadpool, and it turns into a comedy like Suicide Squad.

@Timerider84 - I mean, it is the MCU. You think they’ll make a team of predominantly villains serious? Last time we’ve seen each of the most likely characters to appear they were comedic only one that wasn’t was US Agent. The film is going to be a comedy.

@PhoenixBlade - Considering that Daredevil and Kingpin popped back up in the MCU recently, I wouldn't be surprised if they pulled in Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones or Punisher. All but Jessica Jones are/were canonical members of Thunderbolts.

They should do everything in their power to make it not like suicide squad. And no I dont mean that as a joke or slight against ayer and gunn. I mean tone wise, you dont want it coming off as a ripoff.

@Waddles - Well I think they should avoid "Bad team working for goverment" like have Justin Hammer hire them.

@Unconforming - Val seems to be govt adjacent to an extent so it could be like Mission Impossible differs from Bond and/or Kingsman. The IMF isn’t necessarily a direct US govt entity. The Kingsman aren’t under any govt as they were started by wealthy benefactors who had lost their sons in World War I. The Thunderbolts aren’t criminals who work directly for the govt.

Maybe Val represents a cabal of govt types or politicians who want a team to do some shit that they can’t regulate through normal channels. Val is a broker of sorts for the suits. She even mentions in TWFS how there are powerful people who want to use US agent. A criminal for hire who people in power hire. Your idea having Hammer hire them is cool and could be a front used as cover of shit goes wrong, they can pin it on him.

@Waddles - I would love this actually. Funny character and i'd love to see them do something with Hammer.

I think Thunderbolts definitely makes sense as Val's next place to show up. Same with Yelena, Walker and Ghost, given that she already worked with them (I'm guessing Val is gonna be retconned into Ghost's handeler too).

As for the rest of the team, I hope we get to see Zemo, Leader, Abomination or Titania (depending on She-Hulk's ending), White Vision, Taskmaster, Songbird and Hammer.

I think this movie has so much potential.

I think they should do:
US Angent
Yelena
Namor
Vulture
Abomination

It would be a slight mirror of the Avengers.

@istoleherfilms - I said this on another comment, but...Considering that Daredevil and Kingpin popped back up in the MCU recently, I wouldn't be surprised if they pulled in Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones or Punisher. All but Jessica Jones are/were canonical members of Thunderbolts.

We've had a Reed introduced, there is an underground cape fighting league, and a Shulkie and Thunderbolts shows on the horizon. Would be a good time to introduce the Unlimited Class Wrestling Federation. With the UCWF you can easily introduce Ben Grimm, Titania, and Screaming Mimi who then goes onto becoming Songbird. Throw in some "rough" characters, and Demolition Man because Demolition Man, and voila. You've got a ready-made wrestlin' show. WWE but with eye lasers.

Send the developer's check to my Paypal.

It’d be cool to introduce Songbird as somehow related to Klaue, since in the comics she uses his tech.

I can also envision Lucia Von Bardas as the villain, putting Latveria on the MCU map.
