I think we need to face facts, these mysterious villains will not be revealed until Marvel are good and ready. And that may mean not until The Avengers is released. There have been numerous rumors and theories of course. The most persistent being that they are The Skrulls. Leaked set pics and some synopsis we have seen do at least seem to confirm that the "threat" are alien in origin. But many began to believe that the villains would be something new, created specifically for the movie. Well we can at least put that to rest as Tom Hiddleston reveals the following to MTV..
Hiddleston did say that whoever Loki's allies are will surely please longtime Marvel Comics readers. Looks like whoever that threat is — Skrull, Thanos or something else entirely — it's a familiar one.
"Loki has help, obviously," said the actor. "If Thor could beat Loki on his own at the end of 'Thor,' then why, logically, would it take eight [superheroes] this time?"
"There's an evolution to Loki as well," said Hiddleston. "He's more self-possessed, he's more menacing, and I think he knows [himself]. If the Loki in 'Thor' was about a spiritual confusion — 'Who am I? How do I belong in this world?' — the Loki in 'Avengers' is, 'I know exactly who I am, and I'm going to make this world belong to me.'"
So yet another hint only, nothing too solid. But what do you guys think about the whole mystery in general? Are you happy to wait and see or do you want to know now? I think it's rare for something like this to be kept secret for so long so for me it actually adds to the excitement. But part of me is very curious at the same time of course.
