In roughly two weeks, Walt Disney's D23 Expo will open at the Anaheim Convention Center, where attendees will apparently get a sneak peek at upcoming projects. And with Marvel Studios under Disney's belt, it's no surprise their Joss Whedon-directed superhero extravaganza The Avengers will have a presence. And with Disney recently issuing a press release, vaguely detailing that presence, read an excerpt below.

On Saturday, August 20, Rich Ross, chairman, The Walt Disney Studios; Sean Bailey, president, Production, The Walt Disney Studios; John Lasseter, chief creative officer, Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios; and Kevin Feige, producer and president, Marvel Studios, will present a not-to-be-missed look at The Walt Disney Studios' upcoming film slate, which includes Disney's The Muppets, John Carter, Disney-Pixar's Brave, Marvel's The Avengers, Tim Burton's Frankenweenie, Oz: The Great and Powerful, and more.

With projects from Disney, Pixar Animation Studios, and Marvel Studios, this special presentation will feature never-before-seen footage and all-star appearances by Jason Segel, Kermit, and Miss Piggy (Disney's The Muppets), Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, and Willem Dafoe (John Carter), Kelly Macdonald and Kevin McKidd (Brave), Jennifer Garner (The Odd Life of Timothy Green), Jack McBrayer and Sarah Silverman (Wreck-It Ralph), cast members from Marvel's The Avengers, and other surprise guests.

Anyhow, while insiders have already suggested that Marvel will "blow the doors off" at the Expo, that surely could be done with never-before-seen footage, if our understanding of the press release is correct. Anyhow, look forward to the Expo August 19-21. For the full press release, make the jump here

Marvel's The Avengers picks up when an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security. And Nick Fury, director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. With director Joss Whedon at it's helm, and an ensemble cast including Chris Evans (Steve Rogers), Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark), Chris Hemsworth (Thor Odinson), Jeremy Renner (Clint Barton), Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner), Scarlett Johansson (Natasha Romanoff), Clark Gregg (Agt. Phil Coulson), Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), with Tom Hiddleston (Loki Laufeyson), and Stellan Skarsgard (Professor Erik Selvig), the film releases worldwide May 4, 2012!

darkslayer101: The head of Disney said they aren't touching any of Marvel's current projects and they aren't going anywhere near the comics. I thought of an analogy for the relationship between the two: Disney's budget is a VERY large playground and the material comic out of Marvel Studios is all of the toys and playground equipment. Marvel can do whatever it wants with those toys.

@Skidz....thats more or less correct, they need the young to tween age kids and what is the best way...comic book characters, even if they don't read them the biggest venue for Disney is the toy and clothing market, exclusive Disney brand action figures of our favorite heroes and villains along with hit cartoon shows like Avengers: Earths Mightiest Heroes and the upcoming Ultimate Spider-man Disney now has the means of bringing in that market, they could only drain the princess thing for so long.
