VIDEO: Stan Lee Says Samuel L. Jackson's 'Nick Fury' Doesn't Get Angry Enough For Him

During his C2E2 panel, Stan "the man" Lee insinuated that he's not satisfied with the way (former) S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson, is portrayed in Marvel's Cinematic Universe

“...Supreme Headquarters, International Espoinage, Law-Enforcement Division,” said Stan Lee of what S.H.I.E.L.D. originally stood for (via Vixen Vasity). “They changed it to something else [in the MCU]. I don't know why they changed it. And another thing that bothers me, not about [Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.], but S.H.I.E.L.D. in general in the movies, is the fella who plays Colonel Fury,” started Lee. When reminded of the veteran actor's name, Lee continued, “He’s a friend of mine I don’t remember his name, but Sam Jackson can do the best angry tough guy can imagine. And every time I see him in the movies, he's so quiet and soft and I'm waiting for him to get excited and yell at people and he never does. So, I don't know why they don't make him like I picture him being. Why am I telling you that, it's not why you came here.”

Stan also envisioned a white man who looks like Dean Martin for the role.

Things change.

Wow...interesting comments from Stan. He might want to take that up with Kevin though. That's how they've written him, not to mention he finally got more development with TWS, so it's not like he's had much opportunity. Take it up with Kevin bruh.

I personally think Sam Jackson's portrayal as Nick Fury is pretty well done. I never really grew up with the 616 Fury so I don't really know the differences between Him and The ultimate version. Can anyone else manage to explain the differences Story/Origin and Character Wise?

Honestly, It doesn't matter what Stan thinks. He was a pioneer, but the Marvel universe today is nothing like the one he envisioned all those years ago. He is not an expert on the Spiderman character as Peter is today, and his opinion on the current product is not particularly valid. He's an old man now: that's not an insult, its just the truth. He doesn't know what makes for good movies or comics in 2014. He's the figure head everyone wants to show respect to, so they bring him out for interviews, panels and cameos and hope he doesn't say anything too embarrassing.

This isn't the first time Stan has had something to say about Marvel films:

"I would have liked the Hulk to be smaller in the first two movies, and I didn't like the way Doctor Doom was portrayed in Fantastic Four. Now with Daredevil, they just wrote the whole thing wrong. They made him too tragic. That's not the way I wrote him."

However when he showed up at the 2012 Fan Expo Vancouver he was asked the same question by somebody in the audience. Stan replied "No comment".

I like how Sam portrays Nick. He is the spy. Spies need to be cool, calm and collected. He plays that very well. Stan take a seat. The movies are doing well with out your input, thank you very much.

Stan is the man and he is entitled to his opinion, but he tends to undermine what Marvel Studios is doing right now.
