GOTG VOL. 3 Star Michael Rosenbaum Reveals Why He Missed Out On Title Role In BATMAN: CAPED CRUSADER

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Smallville star Michael Rosenbaum has confirmed he auditioned for the title role in Batman: Caped Crusader and reveals what led to him missing out on playing the Dark Knight.

Last year, we learned that HBO Max would no longer stream the Batman: Caped Crusader animated series, prompting Bruce Timm, J.J. Abrams, and Matt Reeves to take the show on the road and pitch it to other streamers.

Like Batgirl, it appears Warner Bros. boss David Zaslav didn't view the show as a major draw for subscribers.

For a while, it appeared as if Timm's long-awaited return to the DC Animated Universe would also be scrapped, but Amazon Prime Video picked the show up for at least two seasons, adding Merry Little Batman and Bat-Family to its slate at the same time. Work is well underway on all of them, including the casting process.

In the latest edition of his podcast, Inside Of You (via Toonado.com), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Smallville star Michael Rosenbaum revealed that he auditioned for the role of Bruce Wayne in Batman: Caped Crusader.

"I think my Batman was really good," the actor says. "I think I nailed that. I think they were really happy with Batman, but the Bruce Wayne I don't think they were happy with. I could tell."

Rosenbaum later confirmed that, while he received a callback from his audition, the role didn't ultimately go to him.

This would have been a fun bit of casting on the show's part, and the Lex Luthor actor is no stranger to the DCAU or lending his voice to characters from that world.

As well as playing Wally West in Justice League Unlimited, he's played Barry Allen, Deadshot, and Deadman (among others) over the years. There's been no word on who will play Batman in the Prime Video series, though it sadly won't be the legendary Kevin Conroy following his recent death.

There's currently no word on a premiere date for the animated series, though it has been confirmed that the first season will consist of 10 episodes.
