CAPED CRUSADER: Cancelled BATMAN Animated Series Finds New Home At Prime Video

Some great news to take us into the weekend here, as the recently cancelled Batman: Caped Crusader animated series that was being developed for HBO Max has found a new home at Amazon...

Some great news for Bat-fans here!

We were all devastated when the Caped Crusader animated series that was being developed for HBO Max was shelved, but we're very pleased to report that the project has now found a new home!

According to THR, the J.J. Abrams/Matt Reeves/Bruce Timm-produced animated show that has Ed Brubaker on board as writer has been picked up at Amazon for the Prime Video streaming service for a two-season order.

Details on The Dark Knight's 10-episode animated series are still few and far between, but it is expected to be inspired by the classic '90s Batman: The Animated Series, even though it won't be a direct continuation.

The goal of the show is to “once again reinvent Batman and his iconic rogue’s gallery with sophisticated storytelling, nuanced characters and intense action sequences all set in a visually striking world.”

“We are beyond excited to be working together to bring this character back, to tell engrossing new stories in Gotham City,” Abrams and Reeves said in a joint statement back when the show was first announced. “The series will be thrilling, cinematic and evocative of Batman’s noir roots, while diving deeper into the psychology of these iconic characters. We cannot wait to share this new world.”

This news follows the recent DCU slate announcement, where James Gunn and Peter Safran confirmed that their 10-year plan will incorporate film, TV and animation. Can we assume Caped Crusader will be officially DCU-canon?

Hopefully, we'll get some official updates soon, but we'd say it's a pretty safe bet.
