More screenings for Clayface took place tonight, and these latest social media reactions are noticeably more mixed than the initial round of X posts that were shared when the embargo lifted last week.

Though there's still a lot of praise for the latest DCU movie, particularly the lead performances, practical gore FX, and the fact that it doesn't shy away from presenting Matt Hagen as an outright villain, several critics were clearly left disappointed by Clayface overall.

The script, dialogue, and several other elements are said to underwhelm, and there are even a few unfavorable comparisons to Sony Pictures' Morbius.

The full review embargo lifts on Wednesday. For now, have a read through the posts below, and we'll update as more come in.

DC Studios’ first-ever foray into the genre, Clayface is a horror thriller from director James Watkins, starring Tom Rhys Harries in the title role of the Gotham City villain. Clayface unravels one man’s horrifying descent from rising Hollywood star to revenge-filled monster in a story that explores the loss of one’s identity and humanity, corrosive love, and the dark underbelly of scientific ambition.

The film also stars Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Max Minghella and Eddie Marsan, as well as Nancy Carroll and Joshua James. James Watkins directs from a screenplay by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, story by Flanagan, based on characters from DC.

Clayface is produced by Matt Reeves, Lynn Harris, James Gunn and Peter Safran, with Michael E. Uslan, Rafi Crohn, Paul Ritchie, Chantal Nong Vo and Lars P. Winther executive producing.

Why couldn't he have chosen a much better headline than the one he put up?

At first I thought it was another Joshua Wilder article but it's actually from Mark!

More positive input than negatives so I can't wait until Thursday to watch this new entry to the DCU!

Can’t see this making a ton of money but then again it didn’t cost much either. Keep hoping for wins for the DCU but Gunn has got to get his shit together and make movies people care about. Perhaps MoT will be the beginning of a turn around.🤞

Definitely seeing mixed reactions not just here but on social media in general but is it me or are these one atleast veering more positive then not?.

I feel like that’s the case so I find it funny that the most negative reaction is used in the headline but that’s to be expected from this site which seems to have a grudge against the DCU like some others on social media which I just find strange & sad tbh.

Anyway , hope the reviews turn out decent atleast when the embargo lifts in the next 1-2 days!!.

Imagine Batman lurking the background of this movie. Clay is sinking into insanity, but he knows he's being watched; he knows what he'll trigger if he goes full-on CLAYFACE, but at the same time, maybe it's all just another aspect of his delusions? Is the MAN-LIKE-BAT watching him from the shadows? Is he just melting into madness? In the end, he's unable to resist the slide into the MUD OF CRIME, and then Batsy-Watsy emerges and kicks his ass. Did Clay know it was safe to lose his mind, knowing Batman would stop him? Is Gotham the one place in the world you can let your freak flag fly, knowing a bigger freak in a bat suit will stop you before things go too far? That is the final question the movie leaves the viewer pondering, before CLAYFACE explodes the paddy-wagon he's been transported in via a massive erruption of clay--a new move the aqusition of which has been subtly foreshadowed throughout--and flees into the night.

At this point, I'm like 50-0 on this shit - did ANYONE think this was going be either good OR successful?

This DOES make sense if you're laundering money or trying to blow up the studio, otherwise what the actual [frick].
