Danny Cannon Will Direct Fox's GOTHAM Pilot

Deadline report that Judge Dredd (1995) director Danny Cannon has been tapped to helm and executive produce the pilot for Fox’s Gotham series from Warner Bros. TV. Casting news can't be too far away! Read on for more details.

Danny Cannon will direct and executive produce the pilot for Fox’s highly anticipated Gotham pilot from Warner Bros. TV and The Mentalist creator Bruno Heller. Cannon has previously directed the pilots for the CSI franchise, as well as the CW’s Nikita and has also helmed the likes of the 1995 Sylvester Stallone Judge Dredd flick and I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. The show will focus on a young James Gordon as he works his way up the ranks of the GCPD, and will apparently feature several of Batman's classic villains. As for the Dark Knight himself, the recent news that a casting call went out for a young Bruce Wayne pretty much rules out any caped crusading. Keep an eye on CBM for more updates very soon.

You know, I would say connect this to MoS 2 because it's not airing on The CW, but the last concern I have is budget. Budget and the fact that it's television... There haven't been any movie-worthy villains on Arrow, Smallville or AoS.

People will waste too much time comparing this Gordon to Nolan's Gordon (despite the age gap).

Terrible filmography. I know I'll get shit because I like, Agents of Shield but, Gotham isn't going to last. People are going to expect Batman and they won't get what they want. If they want this show to last (not saying it needs to happen with every show but) it should be part of the Man of Steel-verse so people have interest in it at the very least if they aren't going to have him cape crusading.

I can't believe they are going through with this! I am the type of fan that is up for pretty much anything but a show on FOX about Gordon with no Batman? Really?!? I pray it becomes a "Wonder Woman" pilot all over again.

Pure shite. Not interested. How are they going to feature "Batman's. classic villains" with no Batman? I guess there will be a geriatric Joker and a wrinkled Riddler by the time the "young Bruce Wayne" is old enough to mix it up with them. Another timeline abomination in the CBM universe. Wonderful.

Im giving this show a big fat chance. We don't anything about the writing or the casting yet. I'm interested to see how Bruce's character is integrated into the show.

Bring it.

If you aren't going to watch this show because they won't have a Batman villain then you have no idea about the extensive (and I mean [frick]ING EXTENSIVE) history behind Gotham. There is so much history on this one city they could literally do a 200 hour documentary.

And I'm going to say this right now, Cannon's filmograhpy for the most part sucks but he's done a bunch of CSI episodes so it's understandable why they would want him to direct the polite for a cop drama like Gotham. Even with that, really being a director for a TV episode means next to nothing. The producers and writers have the most control, you're mainly there for a paycheck and setting up shots.

The only way a show like this could work is if they followed the course of Gordon's early career in Gotham. The corruption of the GCPD, the politics, Flass ect. Something like the Wire would be amazing. Dealing with organized crime and serial killers like Zaaz.

Problem is, that is almost guaranteed not to happen. They'll pepper in lame references and movie of the week version of Batman's rouges gallery to draw in viewers. Hell, I wouldn't put it past them to have Gordon visiting a young Bruce Wayne every week to see how he's doing just to milk the Batman mythos as much as possible.

Such a shame. Shows like Arrow and Shield have really lowered my expectations for this. Hopefully Marvel's Netflix shows or this can offer hope.

He directed Dark Blue which was a pretty good tv series. This has the potential to be awesome. Hope they don't [frick] it up

Ehh I will watch an episode or two but this doesn't sound all that great to me. Villains that Gordon and the cops can take down? Kind of goes against Gotham's need for Batman.

Let's not forget a certain organization that they could use that's been in Gotham for hundreds of years.

I think we all have considered a young Bruce Wayne, but, the potential of seeing a Joker origin is instant gold. Could you imagine?

I personally think it could be a great show (if done right). I love batman as much as the next guy (probably more actually) but i think this sort of show could show the history of Gotham and how Gordon came to be the upstanding commissioner we all know and love.
Do i wish it had batman, sure. Does it need batman to be an awesome cop drama on its own right, no.

Aw man, this I, Frankenstein TV spot just looks horrendous. The SFX look like cable TV quality. It's gonna flop so hard, and, I hate it for Aaron Eckhart.
