We recently learned that The Batman Part II has paused filming while director Matt Reeves deals with a personal issue. Understandably, there's a lot of discussion online about what this means for the sequel and whether it could lead to another release date delay.
In a brief statement, DC Studios said, "Production on The Batman Part II has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter. Matt has the full support of DC Studios, and we look forward to continuing the journey soon."
Now, Robert Pattinson has briefly commented on the pause while promoting his new film, Primetime. As you can see in the video below, when asked about the movie's status, the actor replied, "We're pausing for a little bit, and then we are going to figure it all out."
It seems something has already been figured out, as second unit filming was taking place in London yesterday. It seems Batman will be chased through the Gotham City subway by the GCPD while riding one of their stolen bikes, and this footage confirms the movie hasn't been completely shut down.
With just shy of a year and a half until The Batman Part II is scheduled to open in theaters, there's plenty of time to account for a delay like this, and it seems doubtful that the movie would be pushed back again unless this break lasts longer than expected.
During another recent interview, Pattinson said of the sequel, "It’s so ambitious. I mean, I sort of said the other day on something that the first one was a different take on a Batman movie, and this one is another."
"It’s a real left turn from the first one, but somehow it keeps elements of the kind of feel of it," the actor continued. "But it just feels really ambitious, and I’m excited to see how it turns out."
Directed by Matt Reeves from a script by him and Mattson Tomlin, The Batman Part II stars Robert Pattinson, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Colin Farrell, Andy Serkis, Jeffrey Wright, Charles Dance, Jayme Lawson, Gil Perez-Abraham, Sebastian Koch, and Brian Tyree Henry.
The Batman Part II is set to be released in theaters on February 18, 2028.
