The Batman Part II: Two-Face Or Victor Zsasz? Who Is Sebastian Stan Really Playing In The Sequel?

With conflicting reports about who Sebastian Stan is playing in The Batman Part II, we're taking a deep dive into what's really going on and whether the actor is Two-Face, Victor Zsasz, or...both?

Cameras may be rolling on The Batman Part II, but the movie remains shrouded in secrecy. We don't know who any of the new additions to Matt Reeves' Bat-Verse are playing, including MCU veteran Sebastian Stan.

When the actor was first linked to the sequel, reports pointed to Harvey Dent, with various pieces of apparent supporting evidence emerging afterwards. A makeup artist's social media activity was among the clues pointing to the Thunderbolts* star playing Gotham's future Two-Face. There was also speculation that Scarlett Johansson could be playing Dent's wife, Gilda, while Charles Dance was linked to his father, Christopher.

Suddenly, everything was turned on its head when insider Jeff Sneider reported that Stan had really been cast as Victor Zsasz, the sadistic serial killer who carves tally marks into his skin for each murder. The same report claimed Brian Tyree Henry would be Harvey Dent, throwing months of speculation into doubt.

Stan's appearance only added fuel to the fire, as he was spotted with a shaved head, a look that immediately made the Zsasz theory seem more convincing. Still, that's hardly definitive evidence, and his haircut has also been connected to his work on Fjord.

This week, however, Stan himself seemingly ended the mystery. During a recent interview with French publication Le Journal du Dimanche, the actor was discussing the secrecy surrounding Avengers: Doomsday when, after claiming he couldn't say anything about The Batman Part II, Stan definitively stated that he's playing Harvey Dent.

The quote has since been removed, with the reference to Stan playing Harvey Dent now deleted. Stan was supposedly misquoted, which is possible, but that's a pretty major misquote, and this feels a lot like panicked reps ordering the site to remove a potentially major spoiler for The Batman sequel.

Was the apparent confirmation deliberately planted to throw fans off the scent? It's possible. If Stan really is Harvey Dent, revealing that now would take away some of the fun surrounding one of Batman's most important characters. If he’s Zsasz, meanwhile, allowing everyone to believe he's Dent could be the perfect smokescreen. Ultimately, we still don't know.

The Harvey Dent evidence is certainly compelling, but so is the Zsasz speculation. And until Reeves is ready to reveal what he has planned for Stan, we'll remain in the dark. Two-Face and Victor Zsasz are both compelling possibilities, and the truth could be a real shocker; for all we know, the Bucky Barnes actor may be playing an amalgamation of both characters. Reeves' Gotham is unique, and not entirely comic-accurate.

Directed by Matt Reeves from a script by him and Mattson Tomlin, The Batman Part II stars Robert Pattinson, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Colin Farrell, Andy Serkis, Jeffrey Wright, Charles Dance, Jayme Lawson, Gil Perez-Abraham, Sebastian Koch, and Brian Tyree Henry.

The Batman Part II is set to be released in theaters on February 18, 2028.

It was NOT misquoted.

Assuming this reporter/journalist who partook in this interview, recorded the audio of the interview they conduct so they can get clear quotes for the publication. If it was truly a misquote, they would have updated it to reflect it IMMEDIATELY since the original audio does not say that. Funny enough, the update took a whole day after news spread like wildfire with no word from WB to deny said article. Instead, it "quietly" gets erased.

Hell not even JAMES GUNN who often loves to refute rumors...refuted this!

Biggest and OBVIOUS tell all that this was not misquoted at all, was that the entire interview is still word for word the same EXCEPT for the mention of playing Harvey Dent being deleted. Everything else, is still not "misquoted" apparently.

Ok, over the course of the last few days I have sealed myself in my GARAGE OF SOLITUDE. Solemnly contemplating exactly WHO it IS that Sebastian Stan could be playing in "The Batman II"?
I have come to one simple conclusion.
Sebastian Stan is playing:
CONDIMENT MAN.

Change my mind.

Harvey Dent/Two-Face is very memorable, which is a downside, because his story is kinda predictable and not really much room for expanding on or exploring. I doubt Matt Reeves would go with such an antagonist.

My expectation is that he's playing Tommy/Hush, warping his comic origin to fit the notion of deconstructing Batman and the Wayne Family:

In present day the mystery is Bruce investigating seemingly unconnected murders that end up being revealed to be of 'Court of Owl' members. These deaths all result in the rise to power of a new politician 'Harvey'

Throughout the film Bruce would learn more about the Court Of Owls and we'd see more of Bruce's past as he pieces things together, including his old friend Tommy, who is part of Bruce's motivation for being Batman due to Tommy being presumably killed in a random attack by criminals that killed Tommy's parents.

Instead we'd get the reveal that 'Harvey' is actually Tommy, misdirecting people by having the false name and political role.

During childhood Tommy witnessed Thomas Wayne during a secret meeting of the 'Court of Owls', a criminal society focused on controlling Gotham. Tommy tried to warn Bruce, but Bruce dismissed it as Tommy messing around severing the friendship, Bruce confided in his father what Tommy said.

The Court of Owls, fearing being exposed, ordered a hit on Tommy's parents resulting in him being orphaned in an alley mirroring what would happen to Bruce in the future. Tommy swore vengeance and, like Bruce, spent his life training to combat the criminal underbelly of Gotham.

Perhaps even having 'Harvey' get attacked resulting in facial damage allowing Hush to have his iconic bandage appearance during the third act.

He literally expanded on Catwoman and Riddler...two MEMORABLE well known villains. There is still a lot more to Harvey Dent that hasn't really been explored in a live-action setting.

@Irregular -
"He literally expanded on Catwoman and Riddler"

Catwoman is generically bland enough she'd been in multiple adaptations and hadn't really had any development beyond being a thief.

Riddler had Batman Forever & Gotham but Matt Reeves' approach was more just taking the Zodiac Killer, updating him for the internet, and name-slapping Riddler onto him.

"There is still a lot more to Harvey Dent that hasn't really been explored in a live-action setting."

We got his megalomaniac obsession in Batman: Forever and we had the exploration of his humanity in The Dark Knight. Sure you can expand on aspects but he's pretty much covered.

The Batman Part II is set during the Winter and while they could adapt The Long Halloween/Dark Victory with an exploration of Harvey Dent I think that'd arguably be something the audience would find predictable given the popularity of Two Face.

Comparatively, if they just swap it out and have Hush instead but the story beats of Two Face then you toy with audience expectations and it keeps them invested in the mystery while also enabling for a deeper exploration of Bruce's childhood which characters like Harvey Dent would not allow for.

@Scarilian - "Catwoman is generically bland enough she'd been in multiple adaptations and hadn't really had any development beyond being a thief."

Spoken like someone who is extremely obtuse. Wasn't Selina Kyle Falcone's daughter in The Batman? Expanded since NO live-action iteration expanded on that.

"Riddler had Batman Forever & Gotham but Matt Reeves' approach was more just taking the Zodiac Killer, updating him for the internet, and name-slapping Riddler onto him."

Yes...that's called EXPANDING on a character and making them fresh for audiences who are fans of Batman. He was vastly different from the last live-action iteration and that's the point it's not the same.

"We got his megalomaniac obsession in Batman: Forever and we had the exploration of his humanity in The Dark Knight. Sure you can expand on aspects but he's pretty much covered."

Oh so...skip over multiple personality disorders? Something NONE of the live-action movies have covered with Two Face, is that he has a split personality from an abusive childhood....so yes, that is an aspect that has yet to be explored.

"The Batman Part II is set during the Winter and while they could adapt The Long Halloween/Dark Victory with an exploration of Harvey Dent I think that'd arguably be something the audience would find predictable given the popularity of Two Face."

If The Long Halloween and Dark Victory are the ONLY stories of Harvey Dent that come to mind, then clearly you don't know why Harvey Dent uses a coin flip to begin with. If you think it's because "he makes his own luck" CONGRATULATIONS...you're a fan of TDK movie...that still leaves out a crucial piece of Harvey's past.

"Comparatively, if they just swap it out and have Hush instead but the story beats of Two Face then you toy with audience expectations and it keeps them invested in the mystery while also enabling for a deeper exploration of Bruce's childhood which characters like Harvey Dent would not allow for."

So your mindset is another origin of Two Face because it seems to me that is all you think writers will do is recreate another origin? When CLEARLY in over 80 years of Batman story telling...you mean to tell me Harvey Dent is ONLY capable to be a character in Long Halloween/Dark Victory?

LOL

@WruceBayne - He is for sure in Batman Begins! Honestly, this was the first time I ever heard of the character at the time but he has a very small role in the movie and Batman does quickly dispatch him too.

@WruceBayne - No problem! Seriously I had no idea who the hell Zsasz was until after this movie and on my fourth rewatch with my brother. Then I was like "OH!" Very tiny role though, some could miss it understandably so.

I kinda hope it this point that he’s playing neither just because it would be funny lol…

Kidding aside , I think i would prefer if he was Harvey Dent/Two Face since it’s a more rich character that Sebastian would really nail the duality & complexity of imo but i can also see him making Zsasz chilling aswell so we’ll see.

However if we continue to explore Bruce as a character & go deeper into his family then how about Stan being a version of Lincoln March , especially given the Court of Owls rumored involvement in this?.
