It looks like The Batman star Robert Pattinson will be staying at Warner Bros. for a while, as Deadline reports that the British actor has signed an overall first-look production deal with the studio along with New Line Cinema, Warner Bros. Television and HBO Max.
While it's easy to speculate that this new deal means Pattinson will be returning as the Dark Knight for more adventures on the big and/or small screens, the trade doesn't specify if any more appearances as the iconic DC Comics vigilante are included. However, should Matt Reeves' movie prove to be successful, it's probably safe to assume that the actor will indeed re-don the cape and cowl.
“Warner Bros Pictures and HBO have always been synonymous with groundbreaking filmmaking,” said Pattinson in a statement, “I’m thrilled to be working with them to discover the most exciting new voices in film and television and help bring their visions to life. I’ve loved working with the studio over the years and have so much respect for their dedication, their willingness to take chances and their desire to push the envelope creatively.”
“We have been incredibly impressed with Rob’s eye for identifying dynamic new filmmakers. Additionally, he is continually nurturing exciting story ideas into compelling screenplays. We are so excited that Warner Bros. and New Line will be his home and that we get to benefit from his creative, commercial passions,” added Courtenay Valenti, President, Production and Development for Warner Bros. Pictures, and Richard Brener, President & Chief Creative Officer of New Line Cinema.
The deal is reportedly for theatrical, SVOD (HBO Max), and WBTV properties, and will represent Pattinson's first foray into producing.
Fans have been chomping at the bit for some new footage from The Batman for quite a while. A new trailer at DC FanDome in October is likely, but for now, we'll have to make to with a more detailed look at The Riddler's mask courtesy of this recently leaked promo art.
