THE PENGUIN Episode 7 Promo: Things Look Bleak For Oz Cobb In Chilling Sneak Peek For "Top Hat"

HBO has released a new promo for next Sunday's episode of The Penguin, "Top Hat," along with a featurette for this week's "Gold Summit" and an awesome new poster highlighting Oz Cobb and Sofia Falcone...

This week's episode of The Penguin ended on a huge cliffhanger when Sofia Falcone tracked down Oz Cobb's beloved mother. You can read our full recap of "Gold Summit" here, but in this promo for next Sunday's "Top Hat," things look bleak for the gangster.

While Sofia Falcone plots with Dr. Julian Rush, Sal Maroni finally gets his hands on Oz and that surely won't end well for the villain.

A featurette has also been released which takes a deep dive into the sixth instalment, while a new poster focuses on The Penguin's leads, Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti, as the warring Oz and Sofia.

Why isn't Batman doing something about Bliss hitting the streets of Gotham City? That's a question we really hope The Batman Part II is going to address a couple of years from now.

Recently, The Direct caught up with The Penguin showrunner Lauren LeFranc and asked why we didn't see any familiar faces in Arkham Asylum during an episode, "Cent'Anni," that focused heavily on Sofia's time there.

"Honestly, for that episode, we thought just about Sophia, like Sophia's journey. It's a tricky episode because it's only about an hour long, and we told a lot of story in it," she explained. "It's like, how can you express Arkham? How can you express what this woman goes through, through it? So it was all through the lens of Sophia."

"We didn't want to throw the kitchen sink at us, and we didn't want to have a character that would detract from her experience or have people be like, Oh, it's [that villain]!' Not a casual Joker, not a Harley Quinn," LeFranc added. "Like, those characters are amazing. But for what we were doing, we're telling Sophia's story, and we just want you to be immersed in her perspective, in her world."

Check out this new look at The Penguin below.

The Penguin's cast includes Colin Farrell (Oz Cobblepot), Cristin Milioti (Sofia Falcone), Rhenzy Feliz (Victor Aguilar), Michael Kelly (Johnny Viti), Shohreh Aghdashloo (Nadia Maroni), Deirdre O’Connell (Francis Cobb), Clancy Brown (Salvatore Maroni), James Madio (Milos Grapa), Scott Cohen (Luca Falcone), Michael Zegen (Alberto Falcone), Carmen Ejogo (Eve Karlo), and Theo Rossi (Dr. Julian Rush).

The series is executive produced by Matt Reeves, Dylan Clark, Colin Farrell, Lauren LeFranc, who writes and serves as showrunner, Craig Zobel, and Bill Carraro.

Based on characters created for DC by Bob Kane with Bill Finger, The Penguin is produced by Reeves' 6th & Idaho Productions and Dylan Clark Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, where Reeves and 6th & Idaho are under an overall deal. Daniel Pipski also serves as executive producer.

Six episodes of The Penguin are now streaming on Max.

The BEST show going on right now!

@Nomis929 - every episode is just a banger. Characterization oozing at the seams. How is this show written SOOOO much better than Reeves' the Batman? It's truly astonishing. Get Lauren Lefranc involved and bring on these writers for your sequels dude. And let's eat.

The Batman was boring af but this show on the other hand...phew! Keeps getting better and better!
Oz is a great character but so is Sofia.

I also dig that they don't mention Batman at all, it's life the mf doesn't even exist.

Good.

@Doomsday8888 - Yeah, I was shocked at how better this was than the movie.

@Doomsday8888 - I watched the Batman again this weekend for the first time since I saw it in theatres. This show actually retroactively makes The Batman better.

@Doomsday8888 - an example being, they actually established in the movie that Falcone has a penchant for strangling women. He kills Selina's mom, he strangles selinas friend (Gordon makes a point of saying "he's strangling her" while listening the message on Selinas phone) and then he tries to strangle Selina.

I was watching it and was like "OF COURSE he's the damn hangman" Like, finding out he was isn't a cheap twist in this show, the breadcrumbs were left in the movie.

@Doomsday8888 - I think it’s wild that not even one person has ever even said the name Batman in the show, especially Oz, seeing that he has had multiple encounters with him.
SATW42
SATW42 - 10/28/2024, 10:30 AM
@WruceBayne - I write it off as it's an unspoken rule in the crime community that "we don't talk about that guy" Talking about him would imply you fear him, and in a show about establishing power and projecting strength, you don't want to give someone else any power, even if it's just mentioning their name. He's also kind of a boogey man. Don't say his name and maybe he won't show up, but saying it asks for trouble.

That's my inner canon at least

@SATW42 - I can get with that reasoning, that makes sense.

@SATW42 - the most underrated comment here.
SATW42
SATW42 - 10/28/2024, 2:42 PM
@WruceBayne - another thought I've had on this, after watching the Batman this weekend and it being fresh in my mind, this Batman doesn't seem to concern himself all that much with Gothams organized crime element. In the movie Falcone met him for the first time when he walked him out "into the light" Falcone made a point that the cowl and the cape doesn't scare him, and the conversation is very much like they are talking for the first time, like their paths haven't crossed. Even when he meets with Falcone as Bruce when the news breaks about his father, there's nothing between those characters, other than when they crossed paths when his father saved him when Bruce was a kid. So Bruce isn't keeping any kind of tabs on him. Same goes for Penguin, that was Gordon's knowledge and intel on him, right? Penguin seemed like it was all new to him too.

This batman didn't even know about the club within the club, and gothams dark underbelly with higherups partying with criminals.

All this is to say, I think this Batman has been focusing more on patrolling the streets, taking out d-bags, robbers etc. Clearly has a history with Joker (from the deleted scene that I believe was made canon?) so he's dealt with some bigger things, maybe even how he came to have a relationship with Gordon, but he seems pretty clueless on the whole mob scene. So maybe they don't talk about him because other than being some vigilante on the streets, he doesn't effect their everyday lives all that much, yet at least.
SATW42
SATW42 - 10/28/2024, 2:48 PM
@WruceBayne - lastly, not so much the Falcone's or the Maroni's, but the smaller gangs, the guys Penguin rallied in this episode, it's their people, regular people, that Batman was helping at the end of the movie from Riddler's attacks. When all was said and done, these guys might just not have a beef with the guy who helped their families when they needed him. So there might even be a "that guys not so bad" mentality going on.
McMurdo
McMurdo - 10/28/2024, 3:23 PM
@Doomsday8888 - this show has better writers. And a great showrunner with Zobel as a consistent director.

Garnet777 - 10/29/2024, 6:18 AM
@WruceBayne - They said Batman in the first episode. Explains the fact we was helping others and not involved in underground crime that Penguin took advantage of.

Even watch the show or just like to act smug and snarky? Seems you like to be a fake. Or a snake. You choose.

@Garnet777 - 🤣😂😂😂. Which clown were you before Garret777? I can already tell you haven’t been around that long so what did you do for the “New Sheriff in Town” to slap you with BAN HAMMER? And since you’re so gracious enough to give me a choice, I chose for you to GSADB. Come back when you’re finish and we can wrap this conversation up, ok Champ?
Garnet777
Garnet777 - 10/29/2024, 2:51 PM
@WruceBayne - So, you didn't address that you were wrong and lashed out like a little bitch?? I love the fact you used some Millennial phrase 'GSADB', that more intellectuals have no clue what that means as we converse in structural dialect. Nice emojis trying to make a sentence. Dumbass. Is this your generation now??

Also, the fact it took you two attempts to reply to me seems like you're a... Chump?? lol

Have a good one digesting that.

@Garnet777 - my first response was that I hope you get a call that cancer has caught back up to your mom and to rush up to the hospital but you’re 6 minutes too late. But I got a message from 4 different people that told me it was too mean so and it might trigger other individuals so I took it down. We all had a good laugh at it though. Make sure you tell her before it’s too late that she’s a bitch l, you’re a bitch and you come from a longline of bitches that were on The Mayflower and we appreciate the gift to society that bitches have given us. I’ll let you go because I think I hear your phone ringing bitch. 😂🤣🤣

Garnet777 - 10/29/2024, 6:41 PM
@WruceBayne - Wow, best thing you can up with was cancer and calling me a bitch several times? No other vocab? I take it your parents were brother and sister and that's why you have a mental defect. Or they were just so drunk that they dropped you on your head multiple times?

Proved you wrong and weren't man enough to admit it. Go to sleep little boy.

The sound design's level of detail is amazing. When Sofia enters, you can hear the door open and close. The seconds leading up to the shot of Sofía are extremely stressful because Victor responds to it yet is preoccupied with Mama Penguin's dancing.

Hope Matt Reeves ensures that the showrunner for this series, is a part of anything else he does in regards to his take on the Batman world. Because this show is on a whole other depth and level. It now makes me wonder what the Arkham series would have brought to the table in terms of its rogues gallery.

Personally if it were me, bringing those villains to life would require a dedicated season to each particular villain Reeves planned on using for his films.

That way, we can get a fully fleshed out backstory before they are introduced in the films.

Completely agree.
I love The Batman but I also love this show. The TikTok generation just doesn’t have the attention spans for good films like The Batman.

Sofia Gigante has become an APEX villian in the mode of Ledger's Joker and The Boy's Homelander. Like those other two everytime she walks in a room she creates a high tension level because she is unpredictable and her demeanor lacks any emotion. Cristin Miloti has a way of communicating glimpses of her emotions with her eyes but there is always an uncertainty. I don't expect Oz mother or Julian Rush to make it through the end of the season alive. If I had to give my percentages on who will be wacked by the end of the show.

Francis Cobb 75%
Julian Rush 65%
Victor Aguilar 50%
Eve Karlo 40%
Sal Marioni 40%
Sofia Gigante 15%

@Forthas -

There is something about Victor though that doesn't necessarily sit well with me about him dying. Obviously there is that key foreshadowing since the first episode about killing Vic. But the end of episode 1 where Vic talks about the way he was thinking about how he would dissect Al Falcone's body before he set it up at the Falcone compound speaks volumes. I think he is gonna die, but I also think that if he doesn't die, he might be set up to be this universe's Victor Szasz.
Forthas
Forthas - 10/28/2024, 11:02 AM
@MahN166A - I have always imagined Victor Szasz as a souless sociopath. Even after everything that Victor Aguilar has gone through with Oz and knowing who he is, he is still reluctant to kill. To me it would be too hard to make the transition from someone we as the audience have sympathy for to someone who has no soul and is a sadistic killer.

I think it is slightly more unlikely he makes it to the end, there is more than a decent chance he gets offed!

Interesting name for an episode. Wonder what it means, one thing I kinda wish they touched on is Oz’s penchant for umbrellas, a gun built into an umbrella isnt that unrealistic, still holding out hope

@TheJok3r - I know I said this above but, I'm really convinced the connective tissue of the show and Batman 2 will be Bliss.

Interesting that it's winter now and Batman 2 is said to take place in the winter, so we probably won't get another harsh time jump like we just got here.

I wasn't expecting much from this show.

I have been very pleasantly surprised. I really like it, and I think it has gotten better with each episode.

I thought The Batman was pretty good (though very draggy in places), but I like the Penguin show much better than it.

And that Sofia is one bad a$$ b!tch!
