THE BATMAN Sequel Not Expected To Arrive In Theaters Until 2025 "At The Earliest"

Though director Matt Reeves is currently working on the script for his sequel to The Batman alongside Mattson Tomlin, it sounds like we won't be seeing the movie before 2025 at the earliest...

Earlier tonight, we learned that The Suicide Squad director James Gunn and producer Peter Safran have been assigned to the new roles of Co-Chairmen and Chief Executive Officers of DC Studios, and Variety has now shared some interesting updates.

While Gunn and Safran will oversee the DC Film, TV and Animations divisions, they won't be involved with Todd Phillips' upcoming Joker sequel, nor Matt Reeves' follow-up to The Batman since neither of those projects are set in the main DCEU.

The latter was recently given an official greenlight, with Reeves and Mattson Tomlin penning the script. Unfortunately, it sounds like a completed screenplay is still a long way off, as the trade mentions that the sequel is not expected to hit theaters until 2025 "at the earliest."

We figured this might be the case, but had hoped there was a chance the movie might be ready for release by 2024.

We still have no idea what to expect from The Batman 2, but the first film ended with the introduction of The Joker (Barry Keoghan). While this doesn't necessarily guarantee he'll be back as the sequel's main villain, we'd be surprised if he didn't factor into the plot in some capacity.

THR also confirms that a new Superman movie is in development at DC Studios. We don't have much more to go on beyond the fact that Chuck Roven is producing and the project is "currently soliciting pitches from writers," but Henry Cavill recently made his return to the role official with a promise that his Black Adam cameo was just "a small taste of what's to come."
