Many fans assumed that Ben Affleck's untitled Batman film would be occupying the currently empty October 2018 slot on Warner Bros. release schedule, but according to Time Warner's CEO, we may see the newest iteration of the Caped Crusader sooner than we expected.

Speaking at the 25th Annual Goldman Sachs Communacopia Conference,  Jeff Bewkes indicated that Affleck's film is approximately 18 months out. “Ben announced a Batman movie [that] he’s going to direct, star, write for - I think it’s a year and a half out." Bewkes also went on to give his opinion on how DC and Warner Bros. have "room for improvement" when it comes to their DCEU films, which you can read more about here. 

Much like the Dark Knight himself, Affleck's film has been enveloped in secrecy, even before it was officially announced. Joe Manganiello has been confirmed to play Deathstroke in the film, accompanied by rumours that the film will take place entirely inside Arkham Asylum and feature several notable members of Batman's rogues gallery.

@Spock0Clock - Again, they set a bunch of placeholder dates and said what movies were coming in what years, but never specifically connected them to those placeholders. (Hence why there were announcements later on "confirming" the dates for Wonder Woman and Justice League.)

And they did that for a reason -- if Flash or Aquaman or Batman came together more quickly or slowly than the others, they could give any of those dates to any of those movies.

@Valdez - Exactly. I'm hoping they have faith in Affleck, which it seems like they do. Fingers crossed. If his Batman movie is good all disappointments will be forgiven lol. On the flipside, if they waste Affleck's Batman in his own Batman movie, I'm done with DC for good.

@Termin8er - And by the time 2018 comes around, Snyder's influence will probably be lessened. His Batman movie has the potential to be the first great DCEU movie.

@Valdez - I think it will be. Justice League doesn't look great but it doesn't look nearly as bad as BVS, and looks much less mediocre than MOS. I thought SS looked great but it was mediocre, so who the hell knows. I've heard that WW is another disaster, which is really unfortunate, but fingers crossed. I have faith in James Wan's Aquaman (which will most likely come before), his creative vision sounds pretty cool and he's a great director (IMO). But definitely more faith in Batfleck

@Valdez - True that. Is Snyder involved with WW? That would be a shame. Read an article from JL producers saying they're trying to remove "Snyder flare" or whatever. I want WW to be great so badly, I hope it's better than the reports say. No idea how JL is gonna turn out. Lotta Johns haters on here though, I will admit I'm not as familiar with DC comics as I am with Marvel so I don't know the writers that well.

@Termin8er - I think Snyder wrote the story of WW. The studios are trying to make JL less dark and grim, but Snyder is still the director. Geoff Johns is, in my opinion, a solid writer. He's not close to as good as writers like Alan Moore or Neil Gaiman, but he knows the characters, and I trust him to write a good story for the Batman movie.

@Valdez - @Valdez - Looked it up, Snyder cowrote the story with a writer who cowrote the screenplay with Johns, so it seems like he has very minimal input. I haven't read a lot of Alan Moore, read Watchmen and Killing Joke, both amazing. I'm hoping after making the disastrous mistake of having Hack Snyder take the reigns on this franchise that they wouldn't make the mistake of giving the reigns to the wrong guy again

@Termin8er - Yeah, hopefully Snyder doesn't have much input. Alan Moore is great. If you haven't read them, check out V for Vendetta, Marvelman, and Swamp Thing. All are great. Neil Gaiman is really good too. I've probably read less comics than most people on the site, so I'm just reading The Sandman for the first time, but it's amazing. I feel like Geoff Johns is a good choice to lead the franchise. Definitely better than Snyder.

@Valdez - I've seen the V for Vendetta movie, which was good, but most fans say it's not like the graphic novel and that it's amazing. Definitely going to try out Swamp Thing. Might start looking at some Johns stuff to see what his style is and how the DCEU might adapt that. I used to read a lot of comics when I was a kid, but now I'm trying to read classic stories from start to finish. Many have recommended Crisis on Infinite Earths

@Termin8er - I've only read the book of V for Vendetta, but from what I hear the movie's not as good. Swamp Thing's great. If you're interested in Geoff Johns, I'd recommend Forever Evil, which I thought was pretty good. Most of what Johns writes is, in my opinion, entertaining but not really great. He's better than Snyder though. I've actually never read CoIE. I've only started reading comics relatively recently, but I too have been trying to read all the most famous comics. Some ones that I consider essential to read are Batman: Year One, The Dark Knight Returns, All-Star Superman, and The Sandman.

I read that it starts in 2018 for a 2019 release date.

I have faith in Affleck after The Town and Argo, as long as they take their time and he doesn't let anyone screw around with his movie.
