The sequel to “Man of Steel” will film just outside of Yorkville on Route 126 in February, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. That’s the same field where Clark Kent’s Smallville farm house was located in the first film. The set had been torn down after the original film wrapped, but now it appears it is being rebuilt for the sequel.
While there wasn’t any security in the area Thursday, as is sometimes the case when a set is being constructed, there were builders on hand and a “No Trespassing” sign out front.
The first "Man of Steel" filmed in the suburbs, including Plano and Sugar Grove, and downtown Chicago in 2011. The source said the sequel – which will predominantly shoot in Michigan -- is not scheduled to film anywhere in Illinois other than just outside of Yorkville.
“Although we would certainly welcome the folks from Warner Bros. back, I have not heard anything that would give me indication that they will be filming on a large scale here,” said Plano Mayor Bob Hausler, whose city has hosted a Superman-themed festival the past two summers to capitalize on the film.
“Man of Steel” was released in June and made $662 million at the world wide box office. Joining Superman (played by Henry Cavill) in the yet-to-be-named sequel are fellow superheroes Batman (played by Ben Affleck, maybe you heard about that?) and Wonder Woman (played by Gal Gadot).
There is no word on which cast members will take part in the February shoot. Repeated attempts to reach Warner Bros. for comment were unsuccessful.
