Michael Keaton To Play A Superhero Again (Kinda) In BIRDMAN

Michael Keaton To Play A Superhero Again (Kinda) In BIRDMAN

Right off the bat (no pun intended) I better explain this one - the movie isn't actually about a superhero, it's a dark comedy from Alejandro Gonzalez Innaritu about an actor (Keaton) who once played a superhero and is trying to recapture some former glory..

This might just be the closest we ever get to the mighty Michael Keaton playing a superhero again. The former Batman is set to star in Alejandro Gonzalez Innaritu's (21 Grams, Babel) ensemble comedy drama Birdman for Fox Searchlight and New Regency. The story deals with an actor who played a superhero back in his heyday deciding to put on a play on Broadway based on a short story by Raymond Carver. Things don't go to plan however when his egotistical lead actor threatens to hamstring the production. Deadline have just announced that Edward Norton will play that character, and they'll be joined by Emma Stone, Naomi Watts and Zach Galifianakis. Quite a cast eh? Obviously this can't be regarded as a CBM, but we figured there are enough Keaton fans on here that it'd be of some interest. Birdman will be produced by Inarritu, John Lesher and Robert Graf. The director also wrote the script with Nicolas Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris and Armando Bo.

@OhthePurdue- HOW THE [frick] is Routh the best Superman? Guy was only in ONE failed Superman movie where he hardly did any acting in the role at all. Whatever. I do agree with you about Keaton being the best Batman ever. But Routh the best Superman? Hardly.

That honor goes to Dean Cain

Keaton murdered thugs, threw them off roofs, incinerated one alive, SHOT AT THE JOKER WITH HIS BATWING.

I don't give a shit if you hate Bale, doing the above is just Batman heresy even in 89 and even if in early prototype comics, he killed.

@OhthePurdue- Did a good job picking up where Reeve left off? That's Singer. SINGER MADE THE MOVIE AN HOMAGE FILM, Routh didn't even have to do ANYTHING, he just stood around looking clueless and barely even said a single line of dialogue.

@TheWonderer- Dude STFU already. Yeah Keaton's Batman shot at Joker but he MISSED ON PURPOSE remember that part? Or maybe you didn't see the full movie right? Idiot

@OhthePurude-

"it's just that butthurt fanboys wanted a Michael Bay shit-going-boom fest instead of a well told story about a hero being gone and coming back with the world moving on without him. Have fun watching Superman beat up Zod bots this summer"

NOBODY WANTED A [frick]ING MOVIE ABOUT SUPERMAN'S FEELINGS. We don't give a SHIT about it. We just wanted what everyone wanted- seeing Superman ACTUALLY USE his powers to kick some butt. There's nothing wrong with that. Making a nearly 3 hour film about Superman being all emo and depressed and his feelings is PURE STUPIDITY.

@OhthePurdue- Oh and for the record no one said they wanted the Superman movie to be like a Michael Bay film. That's just what people like YOU Superman Returns-apologists like to believe.

What people wanted was a movie that had a good balance of BOTH action AND drama/romance. Singer's film was just 100% sappy drama. Not a single bit of action. Superman NEVER threw a [frick]ing punch.

Lastly @OhthePurdue- Superman Returns was a failure. Sure it made money, it barely broke even. It only made money because it's a movie about SUPERMAN. Slap the name "Superman" on anything people will line up to watch it.

But there is a REASON Warner Bros chose not to make a sequel for it and a REASON why they rebooted it.

Because the movie was a MAJOR LETDOWN. You can't deny Superman Returns was a major letdown.

@Purdue

Biggest problem with Superman Returns was that they used the same ol Lex Luthor real estate plot.

We see Superman basically use all his powers in the plane scene and the scene towards the end where he's flying around Metropolis during the earthquake from Lex's island.

I have no problem with them making the film's focus on how Superman would feel after returning from a 5 year hiatus.

If the villain would have been anybody but Lex, Superman more than likely would have thrown some punches. But his power was basically on full display at different times during the film (LIFTING AN ENTIRE ISLAND OUT OF THE GROUND AND FLYING IT TO SPACE.)

So don't blame Superman, blame Lex for a shitty Superman Returns.

@OhthePurdue- HE IS SUPERMAN. HIS MOVIES SHOULDN'T PURELY BE ABOUT HIS EMOTIONS. That's the problem with you and Brian Singer. You idiots don't realize SUPERMAN IS A COMICBOOK SUPERHERO. He FIGHTS. He was created in the 1930's to BATTLE corruption in the streets.

HE IS A SUPERHERO FIRST AND FOREMOST.

Making a movie devoid of any or all action and making it 100% about his emotions is just [frick]ing stupid.

@Superman8- "So don't blame Superman, blame Lex for a shitty Superman Returns"

How about Blame Brian Singer. THE ONE WHO CHOSE TO MAKE THE MOVIE ABOUT A SHITTY LEX LUTHOR REAL ESTATE PLOT.

It can't even be blamed on the Lex Luthor character. Had Singer used that character correctly, he could have been a total badass in his battlesuit.

IT IS BRIAN SINGER'S [frick]ING FALT YOU BLIND [frick]ING TWITS

@LP4

Idk if i'd say Superman Returns had ZERO action.

The plane scene was one of the greatest scenes from any CBM ever IMO, not a single punch thown, a lot of action, showed most of his powers.

I understand your frustration with the lack of drama, but to say it was a total failure and had ZERO action is a bit much.

I'm looking very forward to Man of Steel, and from what we've learned, it seems your action wish will be granted.

@LP4

Obviously the decision to use Lex in that way was Singer's.

I meant blame Lex in response to you bashing Routh's Superman, as if his version of Superman wasn't also created by Singer.

Singer is clearly to blame for Superman Returns.

I'm not saying the movie was a great success, I'm just not willing to throw a fit about it like a child and call people idiots and twits on the internet about it.

@Superman8- The plane scene wasn't that great. As for me saying it had zero action- No punch was thrown. No fighting. Nothing.

Plane scene does NOT account for an action scene in that sense.

As for Lex Luthor, I'm tired of people blaming that character. It was SINGER'S fault. HE chose Lex. HE chose THAT VERSION of Lex.

As for Routh. The guy can't act. Watch his other roles in other films or lack of films per se. He isn't a good actor at all.
Superman8

Plane scene wasn't that great. I don't get what was so great about it. It was just like any plane scene in any movie and on top of that the cgi was shit you could TELL it wasn't really Routh on top of that plane it was CGI'd like hell.

Anyway Superman Returns was lamest, gayest [frick]ing movie ever. I'm ashamed it had the name SUPERMAN on it because i saw NO Superman in that film.

There was NO reason to make the movie 100% about Superman's feelings and emotions. That is just stupid. HE IS A [frick]ING COMICBOOK SUPERHERO. HE SHOULD FIGHT. I never said he had to fight nonstop or in every [frick]ing scene but at least ONE fight for [frick]'s sake.
LP4
LP4 - 3/6/2013, 6:17 PM
All i asked for was at least ONE fight. And Superman Returns didn't even give me that.

It was a boring 2 and 1/2 hour movie about his feelings and being emo and then the end where he gets a jail beat-down by some stupid ASS thugs and [frick]ing Kumar.

-_-

That is no Superman film
