We recently learned that a Black Canary movie is in the works for HBO Max that will see Jurnee Smollett-Bell reprise her Birds of Prey role as Dinah Lance. That's exciting news for fans of the character, but should we expect to see any of her co-stars from that 2019 movie joining the fan-favourite superhero?
It's sadly too soon to say, but during a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Mary Elizabeth Winstead opened up on the possibility of reprising the role of Huntress in the DC Extended Universe.
"I'm down for anything, really. I think Huntress is such a fun character, I don't know if there's any plans in the future to continue that version of Huntress, because there's a few different versions out there, in the comic books there's different versions, so I don't know if that's what's in store," Winstead admitted. "But I'm happy I got the chance to do at least one iteration of her and if that iteration continues then I'd love to be a part of it, but we'll see what happens."
Birds of Prey's take on Huntress was a weird one, but there's no denying that there's still a lot of potential for a character like Helena Bertinelli on either the big or small screen. Ultimately, it might be best for Black Canary to focus on Dinah, especially as she was very much a supporting character to Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn during her big screen debut.
The DC Comics superhero fans would arguably be most excited to see appear in this HBO Max movie is, of course, Green Arrow. Oliver Queen's dynamic with Dinah has always been a blast to follow on the page, and the archer is definitely deserving of a live-action return following The CW's Arrow series.
