DC Studios Reportedly Planning A HUNTRESS Project And It Will Be A Korean-Language Movie

DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has made it clear he wants to release a wide array of superhero films, and a new rumour suggests that a Huntress movie with a Korean lead star will be among them. Check it out!

New DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has been highly critical of today's superhero movies, suggesting his plan is to tell a wider array of stories in the new DCU.

We don't currently know how much the projects which have already been announced are going to differ, but the moderators at r/DCEULeaks claimed to have learned about another "Chapter 2" movie: The Huntress.

We last saw that character in action in Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey, but this version won't be played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Instead, the movie is supposedly going to be a foreign-language film that plays out entirely in Korean.

That likely means The Huntress will be a story told in the same vein as Train to Busan and The Villainess, a bold move by DC Studios which may or may not pay off. After all, a movie such as this is unlikely to be a huge box office hit, so keeping the budget under control will be imperative for it to find success.

Whether audiences want superhero movies that break the mould of what Marvel Studios has found so much success with is also hard to say.

Still, it appears DC Studios is looking to keep things authentic by casting a Korean lead and tapping Korean directors to helm the project. Huntress is definitely a character who lends herself to an adventure such as this, and we're predicting a bold reimagining compared to Birds of Prey

However, with Gunn planning on keeping Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, casting a new Huntress only serves to muddy the waters when it comes to exactly how much of a reboot the DCU really is.

This movie isn't confirmed as of yet, and we're guessing any "Chapter 2" announcements won't be made for a while yet. As always, we'll keep you updated as we learn more.

Best idea I've heard from GUNNDC yet. Can keep it low budget and gritty with international appeal . Also allows for genres within the genre Ala Marvel, which has been mostly very successful

@ProfessorWhy - I mean, not really my thing, but makes good business sense and that has been sorely missing

@ProfessorWhy - how does this make good business sense?

@malschla - low budget, international appeal... an actual selling point in that it is not like the rest of the CBMS

@ProfessorWhy - international appeal to a smaller country, but likely very little domestic appeal. Dubbed/subtitled films do very poorly in the US.

@malschla - Korean pop culture has been on the rise in the US for the last decade. See the massive popularity of K-Pop, movies like Minari, Train to Busan, and best picture winner Parasite, TV shows like Squid Game, etc. Not saying it's not a risky move, just that it's not like there's no evidence that something like this can succeed. If they keep the budget low enough, this could be a sleeper hit.

@ClintThaHamster - yes, I am in no way stating that it can’t be successful, I’m just not sure I would say it “makes good business sense” without more information. And, at this point, I think it is silly to give DC the benefit of the doubt.

@malschla - "I think it is silly to give DC the benefit of the doubt."

If it were the same regime that's been running things for the last decade, I'd agree with you. But Gunn's got a stellar track record with comic book movies and TV shows thus far, so, you know, let's let him cook, as I believe the kids are saying.

@ClintThaHamster - I’ll let him do what he’s gonna do, but it’s still DC. Like anything else, I’ll make a decision based on what I actually see. Finn’s decent track record only goes so far to build credibility. From my perspective, he is somewhat of a one-trick pony thus far. Time will tell on what he does with DC, but the initial decisions (keeping certain actors, unwilling to truly start over) are questionable for me.

@Spagett - yup, another shitty job at casting lead roles. I hated how they casted the SubMariner in Marvel, and Black Adam in DC.

What ARE you doing, Gunn? FFS

@Spagett - Only if it's Helena Bertinelli. But there was also Paula Brooks who before she used the mantle of Tigress also used to go by Huntress earlier in her career.
