The announcement teaser for Cathy Yan's Birds of Prey movie gave us a brief glimpse of Academy Award nominee Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya, but these latest photos from the LA set give us a much better look at the double-tough GCPD detective.

We're not sure exactly what's going on in the scene being filmed here, but Montoya can be seen running through the streets with her gun drawn. At one point, she's joined by Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) who is sporting the same costume from the teaser and first round of set snaps.

Specific plot details are still under wraps, but it's assumed that Montoya will initially attempt to track down and arrest Harley, Huntress and Black Canary before ultimately joining them on their mission to take down Black Mask.

Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn) is set to swoop into theaters on February 7, 2020.

We really need to see a trailer soon. Harley looks like an 80's roller derby dumpster fire in these pics.

@Super12 - I don't mean to sound like a pessimist, but this movie looks like a dumpster fire.

@tylerzero - I'm gonna try to wait to pass judgement until I see a trailer, so I'm cautiously hopeful? But fully prepared to be disappointed.

@tylerzero - It's a Birds of Prey movie without Oracle/Batgirl and it's being refocused to cash in on Harley Quinn's popularity, what do you expect?

Harley looks like a manic pixie chick that does speed while she roller skates on the weekends.

Ah yes, the iconic Renee Montoya look of green pants and a black shirt. Glad to see it's comic accurate.

I'm actually relatively excited for this movie. Maybe because I'm an idiot.

I also actually adore Renee, her relationship with and than transformation into the Question was a stellar arc in "52" so I'm hyped to see her in this.

For a film that's trying to be uber progressive with the female leads, female writer and female director, they really shit the bed not hiring an LGBTQ actor to portray Renee Montoya

“they really shit the bed not hiring an LGBTQ actor to portray Renee Montoya”

Ehhhhh, they’re actors. Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal were two straight men playing homosexual cowboys in Brokeback Mountain.

I don’t think a gay role necessarily means the actor has to be gay.

@regularmovieguy - true but gay men are overlooked for roles. They hardly don't get cast as straight characters and when role of a gay comes up, a straight actor is picked for the role.

@MexCowboyNation

A lot of gay men are getting leading roles in Hollywood. A lot of them are in the closet because it may affect their career.

I’m just saying they are actors. Gay men can play straight and straight men can play gay. As long as their believable in the role it shouldn’t matter imo.

@regularmovieguy - It's not "necessary" in the sense that you can tell if a guy is gay just by looking at them (that is, if they aren't acting or dressing effeminately and that isn't always a good indicator) like you can with people of different genders or race/ethnicities but not a lot of gay actors and actresses get to really do themselves justice in film and get to play positive depictions of themselves.

Yes they're actors but they're also people, and sometimes who you are and what you've experienced allows you to bring something unique and special to a job (an acting role in this case) or just wanting to see someone like you do that sort of thing on screen.

I don't think it's that big of a deal either but I'm pretty sure I can name every LGBTQ actor/actress I know with my two hands. That's a problem.

Brokeback Mountain is a great film though.

@regularmovieguy - True enough, but both Robbie and Yan have talked about the aspects of female empowerment in the film. It's a shame they overlook another subsection of society that is often displaced.

@DnA

I get why it’s important for LBTQ actors to get work and I get why a lot of actors in Hollywood keep their sexuality a secret - just don’t agree that Renee Montoya has to be played by an actor of an LGBTQ background.

And yeah, BM is a great flick. Really touching.

I actually like that law enforcement sees Harley and proceeds to pursue her.
Sorry, Harl, but you're a wanted felon. Did you think no one would notice you walking around during the day?

this movie feels like it belongs in the ayer/snyder universe. if this is present day then does that mean they are going to meet the new "young" batman ? along with leto, after they are already established villains "the kind and queen" of gotham,doesn't make sense
