2022 is shaping up to be an exciting year for the DC Extended Universe, with Black Adam promising to bring one of Hollywood's biggest stars into that shared world. Dwayne Johnson recently caught up with Total Film to shed some light on his role as the magically charged anti-hero, and it sounds like this character is one he was always destined to bring to life on screen.

"There was always something unique, different about Black Adam. He was a villain, an antihero, depending on your interpretation of what a villain is," he explains. "I loved this idea that his pain and rage comes from loss, and was fuelled by oppression. And at some point, he refused to be held down any more. If you wrong him, his family, or his people, then you will die. That is just that simple."

Johnson later added that he and director Jaume Collet-Serra went into Black Adam with the goal of making it clear that "the hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change." What did that require? "Let's have guts. Let’s get after it. And let’s be destructive," the actor says.

With these comments come three new behind-the-scenes stills showing Johnson suited up as Black Adam. That costume looks awesome, and it's clear the pro wrestler turned Hollywood A-Lister wasn't kidding when he said no padding would be required for him to play the character.

Black Adam will electrify audiences in theaters on July 29, 2022. Check out these new stills below:
