Black Adam opens with $67 million; the biggest of Dwayne Johnson's career, and also $12 million more than the early Thursday predictions. The Man in Black is proving to be some what critic proof. $67 million on a $200 million budget isn't exactly parades and rainbows, but judging the strong WOM, they're onto something special.
WOM seems to be helping Black Adam as the movie does huge increases in a couple countries.
Looking to be critic proof as 90% of the audience on Rotten Tomatoes has enjoyed the movie. The Dwayne Johnson-led film opened small in Italy and Korea, but during their first Saturday, the film saw some major increases.
In Italy, Black Adam performed incredibly well on Saturday, posting a strong $744,000; this is up 117.5% from Friday, taking its cume to $1.3 million. Italy's Saturday gross is almost Thursday and Friday's total combined. A strong turn out for The Man in Black.
In Korea, Black Adam did roughly the same as Italy's turn of events. $988,000 on Saturday, a huge increase of 98.7%; taking the film's box office total to $2.3 million. This is almost the same gross as Thursday and Friday combined too.
A rarity for a movie to climb that huge with rotten Critic reviews, but the strong word of mouth is currently the main reason why the movie is performing this well going into Saturday. But my opinion is whether it be the movie or the post credit scene that's increasing the movie's gross remains to be seen.
At 90%; this gives Black Adam the second best audience score throughout the DC Extended Universe. The other movie to catch up the 90% score is actually Zack Snyder's Justice League which did a 94% approval rating. Shazam! connected to Black Adam had a much better critic performance but less than 85% when it came to the audience score. So will The Man in Black defeat his nemesis? Looks pretty certain.
Without a China release, rough estimates put Black Adam at $500 million global total; which would ultimately make the movie profitable.. but we're sure WBD hopes for more. Stay tuned to see if Black Adam does get a China release.
Black Adam is heading towards a strong yet hopeful $67 million domestic bow and a $80 - 100 million international opening; which proves Black Adam will definitely need some good legs to actually make a box office dent.
