BLACK PANTHER Dominates MTV Movie Award Nominations While STRANGER THINGS Leads The TV Nominees
The MTV Movie and TV Awards nominees were recently made public as voting opened. Marvel Studios' film Black Panther leads the film awards' charge whilst Netflix's Stranger Things dominates the TV portion..
Black Panther and Stranger Things lead the MTV Movie & TV Awards with seven and six nominations each, respectively.
Marvel Studios' cultural phenomenon is nominated for: best movie, best performance, best hero (for Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa), best villain (for Michael B. Jordan's Killmonger), best fight, best on-screen team, and scene stealer (for Letitia Wright's Shuri). The film is competing with Wonder Woman, IT, Girls Trip, and Marvel Cinematic Universe sibling Avengers: Infinity War, for the show's top prize - best movie.
The show was reinvigerated last year by adding TV awards to the mix. Netflix original series Stranger Things, which had its second season debut last October, is nominated for: best show, best performance (for Millie Bobby Brown’s Eleven), best kiss, scene stealer (for Billy Hargrove actor Dacre Montgomery), on-screen team and most frightened performance (for Will Byers actor Noah Schnapp). The show is facing Game of Thrones, Riverdale, Grown-ish, and fellow Netflix original series 13 Reasons Why.
Thor: Ragnarok director and actor Taika Waititi is up for the scene stealer award for his fan-favourite role of Korg. The third Thor film is also up for best fight for its gladiatorial battle between Thor and The Hulk. Similarly, Infinity War’s all-female skirmish, which featured Black Widow, Scarlet Witch and Okoye against Proxima Midnight, is also up for best fight. And while Josh Brolin didn't get a nomination for best villain for his role as Thanos, he did get a nod.
