BLACK PANTHER: Ulysses Klaue Gets A Comic Accurate Sonic Cannon In This Cool New Concept Art
In this new batch of concept art from Marvel's Black Panther, we take a look at the many different designs for Ulysses Klaue and get to see a comic book accurate take on his Sonic Cannon. Check it out!
Black Panther is now in theaters and it's breaking countless box office records. The movie feels like more than just Marvel's latest effort to expand its Cinematic Universe too because the cultural importance of the Ryan Coogler helmed release is massive and given the success it's found, it's clear that T'Challa is going to have a huge impact on the genre and could become the face of this world.
To celebrate the movie's release last month, we're taking a look at some amazing Black Panther concept art and this latest batch puts the spotlight on the villainous Ulysses Klaue.
He didn't have the biggest role in the movie but it was good to see more of him after his Avengers: Age of Ultron introduction and his sonic arm cannon definitely stole the show. Here, you'll find a very cool gallery of alternate takes on that weapon along with an in-depth look at its inner workings and one which bears a striking resemblance to the one wielded by his larger than life comic book counterpart.

Marvel Studios played around a lot with the concept of Klaue's fingers raising up to fire a sonic blast but this one looks quite a bit more menacing than the version which ended up on the big screen last month. It's probably the black paint job which ultimately helps make that the case, though!
This cool piece of concept art shows T'Challa tearing Klaue's arm off but the difference here to what we ended up seeing in theaters is that the hero is only pulling off out the central part of that as opposed to the whole thing. Either way, it's an awesome visual and one which is definitely memorable.
Many fans have wondered if Klaue's demise in Black Panther could somehow open the door to the version from the comic books making his way to the big screen. Right now, that seems doubtful but this artwork shows us that Marvel did at least briefly consider being more accurate to the comics.
These just go to show how different thing could have been, with the version on the far right being almost squidlike because of those suckers which appear to be covering it. Regardless, Marvel clearly considered various extremes ranging from realistic looking hands to full-on sci-fi weaponry.
Another very unique and weird design for Klaue's arm, this version flattens out to blast sonic energy at T'Challa and the yellow components here make it almost look like a face (it's not entirely clear whether or not that's intentional). This would have looked great on the big screen regardless.
Marvel ultimately decided to go with a cannon concealed within Klaue's prosthetic arm and here we see some of the work which went into imagining how that would open up for the weapon - stolen from Wakanda - to be revealed. The sight of his hand essentially splitting in two is seriously weird.
These two designs are quite a bit more grounded and actually look extremely similar. Showing us what the arm looks like beneath the creepy flesh Klaue has placed over it so he can blend in, these both look pretty menacing and it's actually quite surprising how much thought went into, well, an arm!
More different arm designs, these actually provide a glimpse inside Klaue's arm and the inner workings of his amazing prosthetic. When you consider the fact that most moviegoers won't give this any sort of thought, it's actually pretty damn amazing Marvel's artists even think of this sort of thing.
Another very unique take on Klaue's arm, here we see that a blaster has almost covered his fist in order for sonic energy to be blasted at the Black Panther. We know it's made from stolen Wakandan technology, so that could explain why we can see some blue and yellow patterns on this one.
Here, we see the aftermath of T'Challa's attack on Klaue and the thought Marvel put into what his arm would look like once it had been torn off by the King of Wakanda. There are a lot of very cool little touches here but an argument could definitely be made that those scratches are the best.
This looks like a proper cannon and the design is much different to some of the others listed here in the respect that the hand moves down for the sonic blasts to then be unleashed. In some ways, this actually works better than what we ended up getting but Marvel clearly wanted something more unique.
