T'Challa Has Been BLACK PANTHER In The Marvel Cinematic Universe Longer Than Any Of Us Ever Expected

Marvel Studios has glossed over T'Challa's origin story but a recent comic book prequel has revealed when exactly the hero first suited up as Black Panther. Shockingly, it's much sooner than we expected...

The Marvel Cinematic Universe's timeline is all over the place so we don't know when exactly a lot of events happened in relation to now. By the time Avengers: Infinity War is released, a decade will have passed since Tony Stark became Iron Man but is that also the case in this shared world? Who knows, but a new comic book has revealed that T'Challa became the Black Panther around the same time as Tony outed himself to the world and was approached by Nick Fury about the Avengers Initiative!

It remains to be seen whether or not Black Panther will showcase T'Challa's origin story in any way but Marvel has taken a unique approach to the hero after introducing him in Captain America: Civil War

After all, while that movie marked the first time the world had seen the Panther in action, he's clearly been looking after Wakanda for a decade or more as their symbol! This makes him one of the most experienced heroes in the MCU and that knowledge will no doubt come in handy when he helps in the battle against Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War (find a list of heroes who will appear by clicking here).

@Ha1frican - I thought it was fairly clear in CW... Chadwick was already BP he just wasn't the "king of wakanda". He took over that second mantle when his father died and placed his father's ring on his own hand.
From the trailers, he is not the only enhanced person in Wakanda and it looks like he will be challenged for his newly attained throne.

@JonC - agree. Very amateurish article. As for the mcu timeline, its pretty darn near perfect.

@realOdinson - he’s pretty hot headed and immature in CW for a hero with a decade of ‘experience’.

I’d say about equal with Iron Man for brash behavior vs experience.

@logicoverlord - 2 things: Who wouldn't be hot headed and immature after witnessing their father being murdered??? More than likely he had little to no "experience" dealing with other super-powered beings up until CW.

@realOdinson - Perfect? Did you see Spider-Man: Homecoming? I had to use this as a reference when trying to figure out how SMH could take place 8 years after Avengers.

So like is he title of Black Panther separate from the royal title in the MCU, i know they at leats implied hed been training and active as a fighter for a long time but i thought him taking the vibranium ring from T'chaka was him takinh up the mantle of Black Panther. Maybe the Black Panther role can be passed on once a prince is old enough of completes his training?

@Ha1frican - T'Challa's dialogue here sorta implies that.

Whoa, that actually makes him more dynamic as a character, cause till now he only had to be a warrior, but now he has to also be a king!!!

Interesting development tbh

@Goldboink - Longer than pretty much everyone in the MCU thats still active other than Cap, but she been working as a hero longer than anyone at this point probably. Even Pym only did it for a few years I think, crazy that the most experienced hero in the universe we havent even seen yet
