The first trailer for Black Adam will almost certainly be here in time for The Batman this March, but work continues on the DC Comics blockbuster in post-production. Star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has taken to Instagram to share a new sneak peek at the movie, teasing an exciting transformation as part of some key scenes in Jaume Collet Serra's biggest blockbuster yet.
"10 hours of sitting in 'the egg' shooting extremely complicated sequences where I can only move my eyes, head & shoulders focusing on marks no bigger than a quarter - all while performing as Black Adam," the actor explains in the post below. "In the mythology, Teth Adam (his original name before his soul is darkened to 'Black'), starts off as a slave in his birthplace of Kahndaq. These slave sequences are super intricate and complex."
In other words, Johnson's head is going to be placed on the body of an Adam who was a slave and obviously wouldn't have a superhero physique. This sounds a lot like what Marvel Studios did with Chris Evans as skinny Steve Rogers in Captain America: The First Avenger, though technology has clearly advanced quite a bit since then.
It will be interesting to see these scenes first-hand, especially after this behind the scenes look at the work going into them. Regardless, a lot is riding on Black Adam because providing it's a hit, there are all sorts of crossovers and spinoffs we could see with the title character and the Justice Society of America moving forward. Black Adam vs. Shazam vs. Superman is a definite must.
Black Adam will electrify audiences in theaters on July 29.
