BLACK ADAM Has Been Pushed Back By Three Months To October 21

Fans anxious to see Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam assert his dominance over the DCEU will have to wait a little longer, as the movie has been pushed back by three months and will now open on October 21.

Bad news for Black Adam fans hoping to see Dwayne Johnson assert his dominance over the DCEU this summer, as New Line and Warner Bros.' DC Comics adaptation has been pushed back by almost three months.

The Red Notice star took to Instagram to reveal that Black Adam will now blast into theaters on October 21, after originally being scheduled for release on July 29. Johnson’s animated DC League of Super-Pets has moved into Black Adam’s old July 29 spot after previously being slated for May 20.

Though nothing official has been announced, it's thought that The Flash movie will ultimately race away from its current November 4 slot.

Johnson joins Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate, Sarah Shahi as Adrianna Tomaz, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, and Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone. Marwan Kenzari and James Cusati-Moyer have also been cast in supporting roles.

Jungle Cruise director Jaume Collet-Serra is set to helm Black Adam, which has Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia of Seven Bucks Productions on board as producers along with Beau Flynn of FlynnPictureCo. Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani penned the screenplay, which is based off an early story draft from Adam Sztykiel.

hmm. October seems like am odd month though.

might have a good run though, and if flash gets delayed there isn't much in its way until Aquamam 2 comes along, though I think that's going to get demolished by Avatar 2....unless they push that aswell.

@UnderBelly - after the success from both Venom films and The Joker, it doesn’t seem so odd anymore

@JoJo1982 - Maybe, but Venom and Joker were pre pandemic, with the Spiderman connection for Spiderman and Joker getting Oscar buzz before hand. Venom 2 came out when cinemas started to open up again with next to nothing as competition. Black Adams core audience will mainly be fanboys. Let's see though. The Rock does sell tickets, and it's quite an ensemble.

All this talk about "the hierarchy of power", and it looks like he couldn't handle the power of another lightning-powered Alpha. (God, kill me...)

@TheSuperMex -

Deke from Agents as Buggy is low-key pretty neat, and Arlong being a person of colour makes perfect sense. Still waiting to see if they slim-down Alvida.

@TheSuperMex - yup. The Zoro casting is chef kiss. Nami and Luffy casting isn't bad. Deke as Buggs is cool. We will see about the rest.

I mean you can’t compete with Marvel lol, MoM and Thor coming out right around the same time frame was obviously going to affect the box office of Rock Adam , so it was necessary.

Well I guess The Flash is definitely moving, WB blinked first (as is usually the case). However I’m not sure if right between Across the Spider-verse and Wakanda Forever is the best release date for a movie ever but maybe The Rock can power it through. This can’t be anything but good news for Doctor Strange and Thor: Love and Thunder though.

Feels weird though that they showed that video package of which DC movies are coming out this year in front of all those The Batman showings this past weekend and now it looks like at least one of them won’t be coming out this year.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Black Adam is the only other DC movie we get this year. Flash is definitely moving and I’m sure Aquaman will as well especially after some Disney execs recently said that Avatar 2 isn’t be delayed any further and they’re currently set to open on the same day.

Looks like WB is discovering their same day release/streaming plan isn't working so they are moving back to the exclusive theatrical model for their big event films. Also, it's also obvious they don't want to compete head-to-head with a Marvel Studios film.

Black Adam no longer is competing with Thor: Love and Thunder's 3rd weekend so it moves prior to Black Panther 2. Wakanda Forever opens on Black Adam's 4th weekend.

Shazam 2 opens in December where there are no other superhero films. It will compete directly against Avatar 2. WB is kind of throwing that film under the bus, but I suppose they think its counter-programing & more family-friendly during the holidays.

The Flash opens right in the gap between Guardians 3 (May) and Ant-Man 3 (July).

Yeah, this is going to be the norm with superhero films in order to maximize revenue before the next big one hits.

@String - The Flash is going to compete with a Transformers movie though. It might end up cutting The Flash legs

Those Venom movies made a lot of money in October so good for them to capitalize!

Haven’t we been waiting a decade already 🤦🏻‍♂️

I still think the best way to show the Shazam story would’ve been a Black Adam as an Egyptian hero slave only to get drunk with power and lose it all. Movie 2 would be Shazam (Cpt Marvel) and 3 would be against each other with Adams redemption in the climax

I’ve seen people comment on this but not comment how Shazam was moved up…

I feel like this move was done to get the emphasis and setup on Black Adam and Shazam clashing to create a big “event” movie that the Rock likes to promote.

We’ll see if I’m right or not.
