CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD Star Seth Rollins Shares His Hopes To Make Marvel Fans Happy As Cobra

WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins has landed a key role in Captain America: Brave New World, and while there's not much he can say about playing Cobra, the wrestler does have a message for fans.

When we first spotted WWE Superstar Seth Rollins on the set of Captain America: Brave New World, it didn't take long to figure out that the pro wrestler had been cast as a member of the villainous Serpent Society.

Since then, we've heard he'll play Cobra, a classic comic book villain who has clashed with Steve Rogers on multiple occasions over the years. On the page, there have been a couple of Cobras, though we're guessing Rollins could be playing an amalgamation of the original, Klaus Voorhees, and his nephew Piet Voorhees.

The WWE World Heavyweight Champion is set to be a guest on tomorrow's episode of Last Meals with Mythical Chef Josh Scherer, and ahead of his title defence against Drew McIntyre at Crown Jewel this Saturday, Rollins has weighed in on his MCU debut in a clip from the online show.

"Nope, can't do that! Can't tell you nothing about that," he said with a smile when the host asked about his Captain America: Brave New World role. "It was a really good experience and I think it's going to be pretty cool. I think our audience is going to love it. I think their audience is going to love it, so it was a cool crossover to be able to jump into some totally different skin and try a new thing out for me."

"Hopefully everyone doesn't hate me," Rollins added when talk turned to the pressure which comes with playing a comic book supervillain who has a storied history on the page. "I don't want to have ruined everybody's vision of this character, so I'm doing my best. I hope people enjoy it."

Rollins does have a handful of acting credits to his name, but Captain America: Brave New World is easily his biggest project to date. Needless to say, working on the blockbuster proved to be quite a different experience from what he does when he steps into the ring on RAW each week.

"I'm not comfortable...like, look, I'm 38. I've only been doing wrestling for 20 years. Only, nonstop. That's it. I worked in like crappy restaurants and a carwash when I was in my early 20s, and that's it."

"Other than that all I've done is wrestling, so anytime I get out of my comfort zone I am nervous. I'm like I suck at this, I don't know what I'm doing, but I was in good hands and it was a really fun experience and I'm excited to see how it turns out."

The movie also stars Anthony Mackie, Harrison Ford, Danny Ramirez, Carl Lumbly, Tim Blake Nelson, Shira Haas, and Liv Tyler. Julius Onah directs from a screenplay by Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson, though he's also believed to have taken a pass at it.

Captain America: Brave New World will be released in theaters on July 26, 2024. Recently, it's been reported that it could take Deadpool 3's place on May 3 due to work on that threequel being halted by the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.

@AllsGood - may not be dead yet but it’s on life support. You still going to be singing that tune when the Marvels bombs? And I can tell you this right now, fake Captain America 4 is not going to do as well as you think it is.

@bobevanz - this is exactly what I’m picturing. Just another villain that’s constantly smiling and laughing about how evil he is.

I can see his appearance being similar to GSP’s in TWS where it reintroduces your hero in the middle of a mission and maybe has some relevance the rest of the story aswell.

Anyway , I like Rollins so I’m looking forward to his role!!.

P.S: dude has one of the catchiest themes in wrestling right now!!

Marvel is so stupid that they put Falcon as Captain America when the one who should face the Brotherhood of the Serpent was Steve Roger. Until when will they discriminate against the real Captain America. It's a lack of imagination to create stories in the cinema for him, putting second-class characters in their place. Absurd.

@Mister11101962 - That's how I feel about how Iron Man not having faced Ghost, Mandarin, upcoming Zeke Stane and not being involved with Armor Wars.

@Mister11101962 -
Only reason they even have Serpent Society in this film is a distraction while the real villain is The Leader trying to make a super soldier army - e.g. the thing that was mocked by Zemo in Captain America: Civil War and mocked by She-Hulk in her series.

They acknowledge that its played out and uninteresting, yet they do so anyway.

As for the Captain America situation it should have been Captain America, then passed to Bucky, then passed to Sam. Bucky represents more about what Phase 4-6 is trying to include, the idea that even the villains can change, something we'll see emphasized by Thunderbolts and that has already been teased as a theme in NWH, Thor L&T and some of the Disney+ stuff.

@Mister11101962 - We all know Bucky deserved that shield before Sam Wilson ever did. All those years of set up in the MCU for Bucky to take the mantle and finally get his redemption only to give it to someone who was a friend of Steve's for like...5 years. Idiotic.

He'll show up at the beginning as a joke and get killed off. He's already described his powers as 'extendable teeth' so I cannot see him being taken seriously by Marvel who have a habit of mocking their characters. Remember Tazerface? Even the more tragic and popular villains have been mocked.
Matchesz
Matchesz - 10/31/2023, 1:46 AM
@Scarilian - this is what i’m betting will happen to. She Hulk was full of them mocking their own characters. They turned the Wrecking Crew into a diverse misunderstood group of people 🤡 I expect this guy to do some awkward hissing at Sam as a joke before getting easily taken out.

@Matchesz - what they did to the wrecking crew is unforgivable. I had forgotten about it, until now.

Eh, Batroc at least had a fight. I could see Sam Wilson Cap just punching Cobra in the face and breaking his extendable teeth and that being the joke. Then later The Leader killing Cobra for being a 'failed experiment' or something.

King Cobra is Dutch in the comics Why didn’t they cast a Dutch actor for this role?

Oh wait… we (the Dutch) don’t have any good actors anymore.
