With Captain Marvel's first day of ticket sales behind only Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther, the first long-range projections are in for its opening weekend and things are looking good for the hero.

According to Box Office Pro, the current estimate for Captain Marvel's debut is $160 million with a $140 million low and a $180 million high. That puts it on good standing leading into the summer and it could ultimately reach $465 million domestically (a number which puts it in the $1 billion worldwide range).

It's important to note that these are just projections and we won't have a real idea of how the movie might perform until much closer to March 8th.

What's going to be really interesting is seeing whether or not Captain Marvel is able to top Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice's $166 million opening; if Carol Danvers' origin story can beat the first big screen meeting between the Dark Knight and Man of Steel, that truly shows that Marvel Studios is a force to be reckoned with and by far one of the most dominant franchises in the history of cinema.

For a recap of everything the Captain Marvel cast
has revealed about the movie, hit the "View List" button below!

The Tesseract May Play A Role In Proceedings

In the second trailer, eagle-eyed fans noticed that Carol Danvers appeared to be visiting a base which had something to do with Project P.E.G.A.S.U.S., the special S.H.I.E.L.D. project looking into utilising the power of the Tesseract (which finally paid off in The Avengers).

Apparently, those who visited the set saw a scene being filmed between Brie Larson and Jackson in which he encounters her cat for the first time but it's said that this is also the S.H.I.E.L.D. Director's first time laying eyes on the Infinity Stone that Howard Stark retrieved at the end of Captain America: The First Avenger.

Jackson seemingly confirms that it will play a role in Captain Marvel when he says, "Seems like the Tesseract has been the constant in all these movies." Could that be what brings the Kree and Skrulls to Earth? It would definitely come in handy to both of the invading alien races...

Captain Marvel Doesn't Set Up Guardians Of The Galaxy

With both Ronan the Accuser and Korath set to play a role in Captain Marvel, many fans believe that the movie could serve as a prequel of sorts to Guardians of the Galaxy

Djimon Hounsou, however, cautions that we shouldn't necessarily expect this story to end with them both where we found them in the James Gunn helmed adventure.
"This is a completely separate story, standalone story, nothing to do with Guardians other than the fact that some of those characters interact with each other later. Other than that, no. It's very different from Guardians, yes."

Minn-Erva May Be Jealous Of Carol Danvers

In the comics, Minn-Erva is one of Captain Marvel most hated foes but she'll be a teammate here. However, based on remarks from Gemma Chan, it sounds like their rivalry will start to play out when the sniper grows jealous of what the powerful Carol Danvers brings to Starforce.

"I suppose before Carol joined the team, Minn-
Erva was probably kinda of the star of this Starforce team, and she was probably the favorite of the commander who is played by Jude Law. So yeah, there's more to do with their abilities rather than affections as such. But yeah, I think there's a mutual respect, but yeah, someone else who's also very good at their job. It's kind of playful rivalry."

So, while they won't be enemies, it certainly sounds like the door could be open to that happening.

Nick Fury Is Wary Of Carol Danvers

Understandably, Nick Fury doesn't quite know what to make of Carol when they first cross paths and Jackson goes into detail about why the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent is initially reluctant to help the hero.

"Like most people, you meet somebody, you theoretically surmise that they’re from outer space and I guess like most of us the first thing you think about is the difference and she looks like us, yes, but she also showed up with these things that can shapeshift. So is she what she appears to be? Is she a safe individual? Is she a dangerous individual? All those things come to mind.

"Spending time with her, he discovers things about her that lead him to believe that she is something other than what she has presented herself to be or even knows herself to be. So during the course of interacting with her, they do become compatriots. They have a shared sense of humor. He’s open to the difference in what she may be and what she may not be. And he’s definitely willing to help her explore what she needs to find out to find out who she is and what and how she came to be."

How The Kree View Earth

In Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Earth is portrayed as being something the Kree want but at this point in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's history, it doesn't seem as if our rather basic home is a place they're all that desperate to visit. In fact, Law says it's viewed as, well, a "sh*thole" by the aliens.

"I think it’s a curiosity," he explains. "It’s actually described as a shithole by someone, as is often the case in these we’re always pitied, like why would you want to possibly stop there, they’re so backwards. It’s not much difference, I think on the grand scale of things we’re viewed as unthreatening, rather idiotic, and somewhat backwards. Which is not far wrong really [laughs]."

Who Is Maria Rambeau?

Carol's best friend, Maria Rambeau is a fellow fighter pilot and Lynch has now shed some light on what sort of role she'll play in Captain Marvel as well as the character's reaction to Carol's transformation following her disappearance (which goes unexplained).

"She is a fighter pilot, very strong, very bold, very in control of herself. I’d say, in high demand with the industry that she’s in. Her and Brie’s [Larson] character Carol Danvers are very close friends, they’re best friends, in fact. She had to go through a lot of grief when Carol disappeared and then suddenly she’s back, and she has to kind of reverse that grief and make it work for this, picking up of a friendship, which is kind of strange but ends up really beautifully. She’s just an incredible character to play. It’s nice to see someone on the page who doesn’t yet have a fully fleshed personality and who you can then inject wherever you want to."

What Jude Law's Character Thinks About The Kree

After confirming that "the Kree and the Skrulls are constantly in conflict," Law explains "both communities are living really at high alert and both obviously live with a huge wariness of each other...as a commander of the military, and as a poster boy of the military obviously of the Krees, my character is somewhat judgemental and full of hatred towards the Skrulls."

"The Skrulls to the Krees really represent despicable manoeuvring and manipulation," the actor continues, shedding some light on how the two races differ. "The Skrulls have this way of simulating other people and turning into other things, so it’s this idea of subterfuge where you’re not who you really are, whereas the Kree have a kind of purity and honesty to them as I see it."

Nick Fury's Place In The MCU During This Movie

It's no secret that Nick Fury will lose his eye in Captain Marvel or that we'll meet him when he's just a "desk jockey" rather than the seasoned Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. we know from the present day.

However, Jackson has now talked more about where we find the hero during this origin story.

"He’s not burdened by the weight of the world the way he is and he hadn’t come to resent the powers that be in terms of how they view the world and how they view what he does," the actor reveals.
"And the seriousness of the situation. They’re totally unaware of it right now. So his next challenge is convincing them that we do need to enlist people who have extraordinary gifts that can help us defend not just the country but the world."

Captain Marvel Can Travel Through Time

Unless Jackson is just yanking our chains, it sounds like it will be Carol Danvers who helps Earth's Mightiest Heroes travel through time in Avengers: Endgame as he claims that's one of her abilities!

"She’s pretty much the strongest character -- in terms of someone with powers are able to do things -- in the Marvel universe. So, for Carol Danvers to be that person and for Brie to become that person, it's gonna be a dynamite thing. I mean, [the Avengers] are up against some really, really tough odds right now -- we saw throughout Infinity War -- so now we know that we need something that's as powerful as Thanos. And at some point, we'll find out how powerful she is and all the things that she's capable of. She's one of the few people in the Marvel universe that can time travel, so..."

The Members Of Starforce

Asked to shed some light on the members of Starforce, Law offered a breakdown of the heroes.

"I can talk about Djimon, Korath who appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy.
Obviously this is a few years before, so young Korath, he’s second in command. Minerva played by Gemma Chan is a sniper and long range specialist," he explains.

"We have Bron Char who is basically a blue giant played by Rune Temte from Norway. Al
Gennis plays Atlas another Sniper expert or weapons specialist, have I left anyone out? No, me, that’s it, it’s very elite there’s only six of us."

What Being "Simmed" Means

We caught our first look at the Skrulls shapeshifting in that recent "Special Look" at Captain Marvel but it seems as if the process will have a name in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: being "simmed."

"There are posters that you’ll see around Hala which say 'Know your enemy it could be you,'" Law explains. "There’s a great line in one of the scenes where a warrior is asked if he’s ever been
simmed and he says yes and that he had to kill himself. So it can be psychologically very scarring."

How Long Has Carol Danvers Been Missing?

It seems as if Carol Danvers has been part of Starforce for years because Lynch reveals that her friend has been missing from Earth for what sounds like a considerable amount of time.

"Oh, I don’t know if I’m allowed…a long time, a really long time, enough for me to say…enough for me to come out of denial and then think that maybe she is alive, and then no, actually she isn’t yet years have gone by, and she definitely isn’t alive. Do you know what I mean? Enough to go through that cycle." Her return home in Avengers: Endgame promises to be even more interesting.

The Supreme Intelligence

As expected, the Supreme Intelligence will indeed play a role in Captain Marvel and while we don't know what form it will take, Law had this to say about his character's relationship with the entity.

"It’s interesting, he has a very particular relationship – and any of you who know alot about the Kree, there’s sort of a divine element called the Supreme Intelligence – and that comes it play in this. Each of the Starforce, indeed each of the Kree warriors, has a particular relationship with the Supreme Intelligence, and my character has a very particular relationship with the Supreme Intelligence which becomes revealed and is quite complex and ultimately very revealing of what it is that motivates him. I’ve kind of based him almost on… not a religious fanatic but he’s got a sort of Divine sense of purpose because of his relationship with this greater being."

Why Talos Has A Leadership Role

Mendelsohn's interview didn't really reveal much (the actor seemed to enjoy toying with journalists) but he did shed some light on why it's Talos who is leading this apparent invasion of Earth.

"He’s quite active, so he has to switch in and out of some various stuff. So, you know, I’m going to assume we’re going to see Talos do his thing. And look, the thing about Skrulls and changing shapes, and I can say this with some authority. Physiologically any Skrull can change shape. It takes practice, and, dare I say it, talent to do it well. He’s a battle commander because he does it well."

Why The Skrulls Target Captain Marvel

What brings the Skrulls to our planet? Well, it sounds like theypursue Captain Marvel there when she escapes their clutches and Mendelsohn goes on to talk in a rather nonsensical way about what the shapeshifters seemingly have planned for the hero.

"I can’t tell you a lot without giving the game away. But it’s fair to say that Carol’s pretty good. Let me put it another way: Captain Marvel is pretty good. You know, Carol, it’s sort of like the Life of Pablo. The Life of Carol. Like which one? Which one is she gonna be? Is she going to be Carol Danvers, or is she got to be Captain Marvel? Now she’s Carol Danvers, then yeah. She got some stuff that that can be… I mean, you know, we’re good at getting inside of people. That’s my big clue."

What does that mean? I guess we'll be waiting until March 8th rolls around to find out for sure.

@StarlordsDad - I'll also admit that these trailers have been a bit whelming, but I feel like they're hiding a lot from us. I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised. It also helps that I've just started season 5 of SHIELD, and I'm very interested in the Kree at the moment.

@JamesPunn - In general I really enjoy Agents of SHIELD, but I somehow cannot like how they handle the Kree. Then again, I don't expect the movies to do their own thing with it and ignore AoS
