SDCC 2022 Banner May Provide A First Look At CAPTAIN AMERICA 4 With A Returning MCU Character

A banner from San Diego Comic-Con 2022 has surfaced online, showing what could be a first glimpse of some promo art for Captain America 4, starring Anthony Mackie.

Anthony Mackie will return as Sam Wilson in the still-untitled Captain America 4, and a San Diego Comic-Con 2022 banner may have provided a first look at some official promo art for the film.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier concluded with Sam finally accepting the mantle of the Sentinel of Liberty. Following the series' finale, it was revealed that Captain America 4 was in the works, co-written by Falcon and the Winter Soldier showrunner Michael Spellman and Dalan Musson.

We finally got some more news on the project earlier this month when it was reported that The Cloverfield Paradox director Julius Onah had signed on to helm. Now, with Marvel Studios set to make its return to San Diego Comic-Con on July 23, 2022 (having been absent from the convention since 2019), we have another exciting update to share.

With SDCC kicking-off on July 21st, a Reddit user shared a picture of an alleged banner from the convention floor featuring Anthony Mackie's Captain America alongside Emily VanCamp's Sharon Carter:

The banner appears to be legitimate, but it may not be promoting Captain America 4 specifically. Having said that, what makes it possible for the art to be from the upcoming movie is the inclusion of the aforementioned Sharon Carter sporting her comic book-accurate white suit, an outfit not seen in her prior MCU projects.

Carter was introduced in 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier, after which she appeared in Captain America: Civil War. She then resurfaced in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which teased a villainous turn for her when she was revealed to be the criminal known as the Power Broker.

It's early to speculate on potential directions in which to take Carter, though a 2021 rumor from The Hashtag Show claimed that Marvel Studios had planned to make her the main villain of Captain America 4. However, as the report further stated, the company is said to have reduced her part (presumably after backlash against her portrayal in Falcon and the Winter Soldier) and used a different character as the lead baddie.

Regardless, it will be intriguing to find out if Sam Wilson's upcoming adventure brings the former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent back to the light, or whether it commits to her new villainous journey.

Captain America 4 will mark the continuation of a promising MCU career for Anthony Mackie. In an interview with Variety, (at the 18:26 mark), Mackie stated that, while he doesn't see himself playing Sam Wilson character into his 50s, he hopes to don the stars and stripes for the better part of the next decade: "I definitely don't want to be a 55-year-old Captain America, so I've got a solid six to eight [years] in me."

Fans will likely have a better idea of when they should expect to see more of Captain America following Marvel Studios' SDCC panel.

I'm disappointed I'm not more excited for this. Let's not even remotely pretend the MCU quality has dropped to the point of being as bad as the DCEU, because it's still well above the DCEU. Yet somehow I don't care about the MCU anymore almost exactly as much as I don't care about the DCEU.

IDK, maybe it's the Power Rangers syndrome. I loved Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, but when all of the original cast was gone and swapped out for new characters with new themes, even though it's was basically the same product and repackaging the same formula, my love for the franchise vanished, and I'd return from time to time hoping the later installments might recapture that magic but for me they never could.

I feel that way about the state of this current MCU, and it honestly breaks my lil nerd heart and frustrates me. It's just a different chemistry now. And idk if its my jam anymore.

It's like having to move on from someone you love who doesn't wanna be with you anymore. It's hard to let go of the memories and accept they aren't the person you fell in love with anymore, and it's hard to let go of the good times and move on.

I don't wanna let go of the MCU, but maybe it's time. I can't change the MCU back to what I loved, so I have to accept the MCU isn't meant for me anymore.... 🥺

@UGLYsonic - I'm interested in certain characters only. Some stuff positively surprised me (like Moon Knight) but yeah, they better bring F4 and X-Men asap.

I thought that was just a generational thing, like phases 1-3 had OG comics fans in mind and now it's the younger audience's turn. BUT my kids are also not that interested in some newer movies and series as well. I thought they would like Ms. Marvel (a tailor made product for a younger audience) but that wasn't the case.

@UGLYsonic - Yeah, the MCU really lost something after Endgame (or in my opinion Infinity War).
They went too big for the finale and made it too final with original Avengers signing off.

The Russo’s said they were inspired to do that from Star Trek IV when that cast signed off but that was very different.
There you had a cast of actors who had been playing those roles for 25 years. Marvel cast way too much importance on their actors and it was overkill.

@UGLYsonic - After The Falcon And The Winter Soldier,I have zero interest.
They better have one shit hot villain to get even remotely interested.

@Fogs - I need Fantastic Four and The X-Men news as well.

I wouldn't mind hearing an update on Blade,Secret Invasion and Armour Wars.

Looking forward to a slightly higher quality fitting on that Cap suit because it's otherwise pretty great. Still wish he'd gotten a bit more run in this suit tho

Will it be titled „Captain America & the Winter Soldier“ or just „Captain America 4“? Can’t see this movie happening without Bucky involved.

Generally think we’ll see more of the team-up dynamic in further sequels as we did with Spider-Man and Thor in the past few years.
We’re going to have teamups in The Marvels and Black Panther 2 as well.

My predictions for an upcoming slate

- Thor vs. Hercules (obvious they’re going to clash first and become buds later on)
- World War Hulk
- Blade (team up with Black Knight as the fish out of water)
- Spider-Man: Homeless (team up with Daredevil and Venom perhaps)
- Avengers: Secret Wars (rewritten to have the battle caused by the Multiverse rather than everyone being handpicked out of time)
- Midnight Suns (it’s going to happen, either on TV or theatres, hope it’s theatrically tho)

@Blergh - Marvel droped the numbers like a decade ago, and "Captain America and the Winter Soldier" is basically the name of the second movie.
Bucky shouldnt be involved, imo

Loved Sam Wilson in Falcon & Winter Soldier, it def made me way more excited for Cap 4.

Speaking of Cap and OT a bit, but on July 4th I made this as a little spoof for Captain America lol.

@MachinimaMan - I thought I was the only one here that made Machinimas. Had some issues with my PC lately so I had to stop production on a Catwoman film I was working on. I'm assuming you go to 5mods I'm Darth Elgor there. I make mods and Machinimas
