It seems like every month, a movie is announced, or a movie is cancelled, or a movie has been delayed to another date. So to help me with grasping what Comic Book movies are coming out, here are all of the Comic Book movies announced for 2015-2016 and the info that has been announced about them so far!

2015

KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE
-February 13
-Warner Bros.

Based off of the book The Secret Service by Mark Millar, Kingsman: The Secret Service is about a young man that is taken under the wing of a veteran secret agent, who brings the boy into the world of espionage. It stars Michael Caine, Colin Firth, Taron Egerton, and Samuel L. Jackson. The film is led by X-Men: First Class director, Matthew Vaughn, who left the director's chair of X-Men: Days of Future Past direct this film.

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON
-May 1
-MARVEL STUDIOS/Disney

One of the most anticipated films of the year, Avengers: Age of Ultron continues the story of the beloved team of superheroes. This time around, they will be facing off against Ultron, voiced by James Spader.

All of the lead superheroes will return for this film, and will be joined by GODZILLA stars Aaron Taylor Johnson and Elizabeth Olson as the brother/sister duo, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. Another character joining the Earth's Mightiest Heroes will be The Vision played by Paul Bettany (The voice of Tony Stark's AI, JARVIS), who was created by Ultron. The first official synopsis was released for the film just a few days ago here

Also, a trailer was shown at Comic-Con, but due to security, all that has been released is the audio.

ANT-MAN
- July 17
-MARVEL STUDIOS/ Disney

Only two months after Age of Ultron, Marvel releases Ant-Man. Originally set to be directed by Edgar Wright, the film will now be directed by Payton Reed, who also directed Yes Man. The film stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne. Playing the villain of the film is Corey Stoll as Darren Cross/Yellow Jacket. The only picture officially released shows Scott Lang standing with the Golden Gate Bridge behind him.

At Comic-Con, Marvel revealed the official helmet of Ant Man along with a picture of concept art. Before Edgar Wright left the film, test footage for a Ant-Man film was shown, and it was met with a very good reaction from fans.

The suit in the test footage highly resembles the suit that was shown in the concept art.

FANTASTIC FOUR
-August 7
-FOX

Though just a few days ago it was slated for June 19th, Fantastic Four was moved to August 7th, taking the spot of Assassin's Creed. Fantastic Four stars:

A lot of backlash has happened for this film after it was announced that a race change would happen in the film with Michael B. Jordan being casted as Johnny Storm, even though he is probably the best actor casted in this film. Josh Trank, director of Chronicle and an upcoming Star Wars spin-off film, will direct. The costumes and looks of the characters are unknown, other than two leaked pictures: one of The Thing and one of Doctor Doom, though they have not been confirmed by FOX to be real.

Though we thought at first that Josh Trank was giving us answers to the film on twitter, it turned out to be a fake account, so anything said from those tweets should be discarded for now.

STAR WARS VII
-December 18
-Lucas Films/Disney

Ending the CBMs of 2015 with a bang is STAR WARS VII, continuing the story 30 years after Return of the Jedi. Returning to the franchise is :

  • Harrison Ford as Han Solo,
  • Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker
  • Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia
  • Peter Mayhew as Chewbacca
  • Anthony Daniels as C-3PO
Joining the universe is:
  • Gwendoline Christie
  • John Boyega
  • Adam Driver
  • Daisy Ridley
  • Domhnall Gleeson
  • Lupita Nyong'o
Nothing is really known about the story other than rumors that John Boyega will portray a rogue stormtrooper who finds Luke Skywalker's hand and lightsaber. The Millennium Falcon along with other ships will return. Also, it is most likely that Hoth will be in the film. Adam Driver will portray the film's villain, and it is rumored that the Emperor is still alive and will return.  Concept art for Han Solo's costume in Episode VII has also been released. J.J. Abrams was announced as director of the film, while episode VIII will be directed by Rian Johnson.

2016

DEADPOOL
-February 12
-FOX

Recently just announced, the Merc with a Mouth will begin our long journey of Comic Book movies in 2016. Being all but officially confirmed for a PG-13 rating, DEADPOOL will be directed by Tim Miller (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World , Rockfish) and will most likely star Ryan Reynolds as the title character. It has not been announced yet whether the film will be CGI (like the test footage)
...

or live action, though my money would be on live action. The script has already been written and is said to be amazing.

BATMAN V. SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE
- March 25
-Warner Bros.

Originally set to come out in 2015, then moved to the same date of Captain America 3, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice finally found its release date to be March 25th. The film stars a cast of characters as long as that terrible title, such as:

  • Batman (Ben Affleck)
  • Superman (Henry Cavill)
  • Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot),
  • Aquaman (Jason Mamoa),
  • Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg),
  • Ray Fisher as Cyclops
  • Scoot McNairy an untitled character (Rumored to be a crippled Jimmy Olson),
  • Alfred (Jeremy Irons),
  • Lois Lane (Amy Adams)
and a whole lot more.
Batman is rumored to be retired, while controlling bat-drones over Gotham City. Superman is said to be struggling with his choices to murder Zod in Man of Steel, even though Metropolis has a statue of him in the city (Which makes no sense to me). Recently, it was said that Aquaman will have a surfer look and will also have tattoos. Lex Lexcorp will apparently be a fun, hip company,  instead of the darker, more serious tones that Lexcorp has had in previous films.
The Batmobile has also been released recently by director, Zack Snyder. The Batmobile resembles a classic looking Batmobile mixed with Christopher Nolan's Tumbler. It also contains a gun that has been met with a lot of controversy. The film will be made by Warner Bros. At Comic-Con this year, footage was shown of Batman V. Superman, which showed Batman suited up in Batman armor almost identical to the Frank Miller comic, The Dark Knight Returns.  Click here for a description of that footage, since all copies of it have been taken down.

CAPTAIN AMERICA 3
-May 6
- MARVEL STUDIOS

As mentioned above, this date was going to be shared with Batman v. Superman, until Warner Bros. decided to change the date for their film. Though not a whole lot is known about Captain America 3, there are a few things we can expect. Unless something happens to Cap in Avengers: Age of Ultron, we can plan on seeing Chris Evens in the role of Captain America. In The Winter Soldier, we saw Crossbones get burned in the end of the film, so I think we can expect to see him, the Falcon, and also Bucky Barnes aka The Winter Soldier return for the film. I would hope that Black Widow will also return for the film, as she and Cap had a great chemistry in the film. Another character I believe will return for the third installment will be Sharon Carter/AGENT 13 played by Emily Vancamp.

The amazing duo, the Russo brothers will return to write and direct.

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE
-May 27
-FOX

With Captain America 3 owning the beginning of May, X-Men: Apocalypse will reign the end of the month. As the same with Captain America 3, not a whole lot is known about the plot, other than the synopsis for the film: "Apocalypse takes place a decade after Days of Future Past and is a seamless next step in the story. The altering of time has unleashed a new and uniquely powerful enemy. Charles (James McAvoy), Erik/Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Raven/Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and Hank/Beast (Nicholas Hoult) are joined by young Cyclops, Storm, Jean and others as the X-Men must fight their most formidable foe yet – an ancient unrelenting force determined to cause an apocalypse unlike any in human history."

Of course, the villain Apocalypse, the oldest mutant in history, will appear with his four horsemen. Returning to their roles wil be:
  • James McAvory (Professor X)
  • Michael Fassbender (Magneto)
  • Nicholas Hoult (Beast)
  • Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique)
  • Evan Peters (QuickSilver)
  • Hugh Jackman  (Wolverine)
And only set to join the amazing cast so far, is  Channing Tatum as Gambit, a younger Jean Grey, a younger Storm and a younger Cyclops (Don't expect to see the same one from X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The film will be directed by Bryan Singer.

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES 2
-June 3
-Nickelodeon Movies

Though the first film bombed in rating, it sky rocketed in the box office, leading the company to announce that there will be a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2. Who will return for this film is up in the air, since Danny Woodburn backlashed after his voice of Splinter was switched out for MONK star, Tony Shalhoub, so I doubt that he would return just for the motion capture. The same happened for unknown actor Pete Ploszek, when he performed motion capture for Leonardo, but had his voice taken out for Johnny Knoxville, star of the series Jack-Ass and the film Bad Grandpa. It is said how the sequel may delve into the world of Dimension X, though it is unknown at this time if they actually will.

DOCTOR STRANGE
-July 8
-MARVEL STUDIOS

Just two months after Captain America 3, Marvel Studios will release Doctor Strange. It will be the third non-sequel Marvel film to come out after Avengers, the first two beingGuardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man. Horror film director Scott Derrickson will direct the film. Actors rumored for the title character role so far have been:

  • Benedict Cumberbatch
  • Johnny Depp
  • Joaquin Pheonix
The character was first announced to exist in the universe as an easter egg mentioned on Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The film is reported to not be an origin story. Unless featured in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America 3, or Ant-Man,this will be the first MARVEL film to delve into the world of magic for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

SHAZAM
-August 5
-Warner Bros.

Out of all the many different superheroes to make films of, we were taken by surprise to see that a movie about SHAZAM was in the works. This film ,so far, only has Bill Birch, who penned the screenplay, and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson set as the villain of the film, Black Adam. Warner Bros. has yet to announce a director and the rest of the cast, including the role of SHAZAM himself. It is currently unknown if this film will be set in the same universe that Zack Snyder is setting up with 2013's Man of Steel and his upcoming film Batman v. Superman

Toby Emmerich, New Line Cinema President, stated ,“It feels to me like Shazam will have a tone unto itself. It’s a DC comic, but it’s not a Justice League character, and it’s not a Marvel comic. The tone and the feeling of the movie will be different from the other range of comic book movies." He also mentioned the tone of the film, saying that SHAZAM "will have a sense of fun and a sense of humor, but the stakes have to be real.”

SINISTER SIX
-November 11
-SONY

Though it could change because of how unstable the current production of films in the Amazing Spider-Man universe, Sinister Six is currently slated to come out on November 11. Like other films on this list, not too much it known about the cast and crew of this film.

The only actor casted so far is Michael Massee, portraying Gustav Fiers, the mysterious man of the shadows in the last two films (In the picture above).

The villains to be rumored in the film are:

  • Green Goblin
  • Kraven the Hunter
  • Rhino
  • Dock Ock
  • the Vulture
  • Mysterio.
If the rumors are true, I would expect to see Dane Dehaan and Paul Giamatti return to their roles of the Green Goblin and the Rhino. Drew Goddard left Netflix's DAREDEVIL series to direct and write the Sinister Six film.

Wow there is a lot to look forward in the next little stretch. There's really only one or two that I'm actually not excited for.

I mean seriously, how can the fact that we will soon see Hulk punching Iron Man and Batman punching Superman on the big screen not just make everyone here have their naughty bits tingle just a little.

Sorry about the Ray Fisher as Jimmy Olson thing. I'll get it fixed later today.

Looking forward to BvS the most.

I'm more excited about BvS than Avengers 2. Mainly because I know what I'm going to get in A2 as far as quality goes. I know it will be good. Batman v Superman is more up in the air, and has my interest piqued. Don't care about Kingsman, Fantastic Four, or TMNT. I'll probably check out F4 just to see how it is, though.

Excited for all of these films. I may be one of the few that didn't hate TMNT and felt the personalities stayed true to the Turtles. Whatever though, just leave Megan Fox out of the sequel.

Agreed. I'm really excited to see where DC takes their universe, but more surprisingly I can't wait to see more from Fantastic 4.
