On April 3rd, George Gladir passed away. Gladir is probably best known as a writer for Archie Comics, having written stories for Archie's Girls Betty and Veronica, Archie's Pal Jughead, Reggie and Me, and Betty and Me. However, he also worked for Cracked magazine, in time serving as its head writer.
One of Gladir's most enduring contributions was Sabrina the Teenage Witch, whom he co-created with Dan DeCarlo. In addition to becoming a fixture in the comics, Sabrina would eventually star in an animated series and a live-action sitcom.
The recipient of the Bill Finger Award for Excellence in Comic Book Writing, Gladir is remembered fondly by many people in the industry. Archie Comics President Mike Pellerito said the following: "There are not enough kind words to describe how wonderful a person or how amazing of a writer George was . . . Working and knowing George is one of the best experiences of my career and I will miss him."
