Some of the biggest names in the industry have lent their talents to DC for the 1000th issue of Action Comics. Seven of the eight variant covers for the landmark issue have just been released, with each cover representing a decade in Superman's history. Each one vividly represents how the character, and the comic industry as a whole, has changed over the course of the Man of Steel's 80 years in print.

The only one of the decade covers that was not included in the release is the 1980s cover by Joshua Middleton

Take a look at the covers below:

1930s by Steve Rude (Future Quest)

1940s by Michael Cho (Batman Black and White)

1950s by Dave Gibbons (Watchmen)

1960s by Michael Allred (Bug!: The Adventures of Forager)

1970s by Jim Steranko (S.H.I.E.L.D.)

1990s by Dan Jurgens (Action Comics) and Kevin Nowlan (Hawkman: Found)

2000s by Lee Bermejo (Luthor)

I'm digging Steranko's cover. Looks like they combined the 70s and 80s. Definitely an homage to Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow.

@blackandyellow - I read Whatever Happened To the Man of Tomorrow for the first time a few months ago & I have to say, that’s the most depressing comic I have ever read

It’s just sad for everyone. Except Perry White & his wife. And they even killed Krypto

@LEVITIKUZ - Well, the story was meant to be a sendoff for the Silver Age Superman and then they reintroduced him in the Man of Steel miniseries. Krypto dying was sad, but I liked how they made Mr. Mxyzptlk the villain behind everything.

These are cool, but I'm going to miss this suit.

@TheLight - Yea I will miss the new suit

I’m not pro or anti underwear but my biggest issue with suits when you take away his underwear is you just make the belt red & take away yellow

You need to keep the colors. If you take away red, add red somewhere else. If you still want a belt, keep it yellow. I feel his new suit handles this the best as the belt is red & yellow.

These are all glorious! Bermejo's Superman should be the 21st century Superman going formward. The costume is more detailed and realistically rendered but still has the classic components.

Should have gotten Neal Adams for a 60's\70's cover but the fact is Steranko still rules. Nuff Said!
