Wolverine is coming back, and he's bringing a set of new, while-hot claws with him.

When fans found out that Ol' Canucklehead would be sporting this upgrade the reaction was decidedly mixed. However, during an interview with CBR, writer Charles Soule revealed that this new feature won't be a huge part of the Return of Wolverine story, while also acknowledging that a lot of people thought it sounded like "the dumbest idea ever."

"It’s been fun to see the reaction of the fans to that idea – that Logan’s claws might, under certain circumstances, get incredibly hot, a la metal on a blacksmith’s forge,” Soul said of the fan response to the "Hot Claws". “Some people can’t wait to see how they come into the story, and others think it’s the dumbest idea ever (which I get). I mean, Logan’s claws can already cut through anything… why do they need to do this too? I guess we’ll all find out together."

Check out some preview pages and the solicitation for Return of Wolverine #1 below which feature Logan demonstrating his new ability.

It sounds very silly, but I like Soule's writing so I'm willing to see how it goes. Aside from Saga, this will be the first comic I've bought in... a very long time!

@RorMachine - From the look of it, it looks like his emotion or rage plus his mutation triggers his claws to heat up or overheat. So it might not be an upgrade more like limit use.

@RorMachine - I can't miss anything Wolverine, I know he gets his haters but he's a fun character to follow and I'm happy he's back.

The hot claws are interesting though, I mean if it's still believed that they hurt everytime he 'Snikts' then does that mean they'll burn too now?

@Prime8 - "Seems a bit much" that can sum up most modern comics.

I’d like to think Marvel has a cyclops story brewing. But I would be fooling myself, since they can’t even put him in X-men. Smh 🤦🏼‍♂️

Context is key. If somehow Logan has developed some new, unrelated power to generate heat in the claws then yeah, that's kinda dumb. If it's some kinda external factor causing the metal to heat up then that makes more sense, and being who he is you have to imagine Wolverine would take advantage of that in any way in a fight.
