COMICS: KEVIN SMITH Passed On Writing One Of The WATCHMEN Prequels

The polarizing writer/comedian/director recently revealed that he was approached by Jim Lee and Dan DiDio to write a new 52 title and one of the Watchmen prequels.

The frequent podcaster stated recently that he's turned down a number of high profile gigs including the Watchmen prequels and one of DC's New 52 titles. During his nationwide LIVE FROM BEHIND simulcast event, Smith did not reveal why he declined to write one of the Watchmen prequels or which title he was approached to write but he did reveal that at Comic-Con [take your pick as to which one, bleedingcool.com reports the Watchmen prequels have been planned for a LONG time] both Dan Didio and Jim Lee approached him about writing for the New 52 and the 'then-unnamed' Before Watchmen.

Smith apparently did state that he was leery of taking on the job because of the 'immense challenge in following in Alan Moore and Dave Gibbon's footsteps.'

Smith also went on to say that he DOES plan on finishing up Batman: The Widening Gyre and Daredevil: Targets at some point. Some day. Some where. Eventually.

Good, because if he was writing them that would mean the series would never be finished.

Silk spectre was NOT a rape baby. It was heavily implied that the Comedian and Silk hooked up after the attempted rape at the Minutemen meeting, and that it was in fact consensual (Although Sally later regretted it).

Urgh, thank god he's not writing one. I don't have high hopes for the prequels, but if Kevin Smith was involved then they would be eye-gougeingly bad. His comics (especially his Batman) are terrible and his work is highly overrated.

Regardless of how bad the Watchmen prequels are we can take comfort in the fact that they could have been a lot worse.

Kurt Sutter, the creator of the show SONS OF ANARCHY said on Twitter the other day that he would like to turn the Rorschack prequels into a tv show.I'm surprised nobody caught that.SOA is a badass show,so I would love to see what he would do with Rorschack.
