COMICS: 'Mary Jane Watson' To Join INVINCIBLE IRON MAN Supporting Cast

Is Mary Jane Watson Tony Stark's new love interest, secretary, or the star of the upcoming Invincible Iron Man spinoff series? Rumours point to all of those, but Marvel has today announced that Spider-Man's one-time wife is indeed joining the cast of Tony Stark's new series...

Many fans have been hoping that Secret Wars would lead to Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson's marriage being reinserted back into Marvel Comics continuity, but nope, it seems like it will be Iron Man who has hit the jackpot in the All-New, All-Different Marvel relaunch. She's set to become a regular cast member in Invincible Iron Man from issue #4 onwards, and Brian Michael Bendis had this to say about her becoming part of the series. "We were at one of our glorious Marvel publishing retreats and certain characters got brought up, sometimes almost accidentally, and I found out that nobody had anything going on with Mary Jane. I sat with that for a while and I always go to this place in my head where I [wonder] what the most interesting thing I would like to see that character do now and it fell right into the ideas I was already cooking for Tony Stark."

This isn't a totally random pairing either, as Bendis points out that the two do have at least some history together. "They know each other. She used to live in Avengers Tower. But that’s all I’m going to say for now because what kind of relationship they end up having is a big part of what I would like people to buy the book for. But what I can tell you is that it is new territory for both Tony and Mary Jane. And that is pretty exciting to write." What kind of relationship Tony and MJ have remains to be seen, but this could be yet another controversial change by Marvel depending on how it all pans out. What do you think? As always, share your thoughts on this news below.

So "Renew Your Vows" Really doesn't matter as it appears peter and mj's marriage has still be destroyed; Secret Wars/Battleworld is completely useless it was just an excuse to alter certain characters into new versions of older heroes and bring in some ultimate characters to the main continuity

So wait... Peter is doing his own Stark Industries thing now, and in exchange Tony gets MJ?

I don't know what's going to happen but I am ALREADY against it.... My jimmies have been freaking rustled.

I swear to the comicbook god, that if Tony bangs Peter's Ex wife.... I don't know but it will be drastic.

Ok, FU Bendis and Marvel Comics. I gave the re-vamp a chance. I bought some of the new Secret Wars comics. Aside from the main storyline it was dreck.

Peter will lose MJ, stop being Spiderman and now owns a tech company? WTF? I miss the good ole days when Spider-Man had relatable storylines and great story arcs. Craven's Last Hunt comes to mind. For at least the last ten years the liberal writers at Marvel have been taking apart what made Marvel great. I am so glad that the MCU is now separate from Marvel Comics.

I should clarify that the majority of the writers at Marvel are East Coast uber-liberals who are entirely out of touch with middle America.

You know, it would be real easy to make fun of and hate on this. Fish in a dumb barrel. I'm among those who want MJ and Peter back together, and I do hope they stay that way after the Secret Wars/Battleworld event is over. If they make MJ hook up with Tony, then they've really dived themselves into a pool of bullshit.

Although, that prospect of her being the star of the comic is interesting. Imagine if MJ had her own armor and fought alongside Peter. That would be cool.

Feels unnecessary. Marvel doing anything they can to keep MJ and peter separated. Eh, this could lead to some interesting stories. And hey since Bendis can only write stories involving Spider-Man maybe this comics having a spider-man character will mean he can start writing more good stuff.
