And The Winner Is...DC Comics!

Diamond Comic Distributors proudly announces the winners of the 2010 Diamond Gem Awards, recognized within the comic book industry as the pinnacle of sales achievement for comic book artists, writers, publishers, and industry executives who work in one of America's most unique art forms.

The Gem Awards are selected in a three-step process that is based on quality, creativity, and their overall sales impact. Nominees were selected by a panel of Diamond industry professionals from all products shipped in 2010 and then voted on by the most critical segment that serves the comic book-buying public — comic book specialty retailers across the United States and abroad.

For the second year, DC Comics was the big winner. Awarded Publisher of the Year and taking home a total of 10 Gem Awards, equaling the amount earned in 2009.
“Ten Gem Awards! For a second year in row, a great big thank you to all of our retailers around the world for this unprecedented show of support!” exclaimed Bob Wayne, Senior Vice President – Sales, DC Comics.

Marvel Comics took home two Gem Awards, both for Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr.'s best-selling creator-owned series Kick-Ass. The collected edition of the first series, the Kick-Ass Premiere hardcover was the Best Licensed TP/HC of the year, and Kick-Ass 2 #1 was the Best Licensed Comic Book of the Year.

"We're proud to honor the top-selling products from last year, and we congratulate the 2010 Gem Award winners, who truly deserve this recognition as the valued publishers and suppliers that keep our industry growing.” said Diamond President and CEO Steve Geppi.

Read Action Comics, Sinister Six, or Batman and Robin and tell me what Marvel has to even compare to the sheer awesomeness of these titles?

Are you [frick]ing with me? More balanced characters? Please, marvel can't even produce a decent story let alone make some compelling characters. Kingdom Come alone is enough of a story to cover mostly all Marvel mishaps when it comes to constructing anything interesting. Then they got this shit called "fear within"? Meh..

DC will always be better than Marvel, and you fanboys should never forget it.

And until a marvel movie wins an oscar, they got nothing on DC films. ;P

Stirring the pot...heh.

On an aside, I really cannot STAND John Romita Jr....to think that he's the son of such an ICON is an abomination.....worst artist in the business---nice guy, to be sure---but...just horrendous. [WW Hulk would have been so much better if HE wasn't on it, to be sure...it stood no chance to follow up to PLANET HULK's mastery but....JR jr infected it like the goddamn plague!] Marvel should be ASHAMED for using his ass ANYWHERE just because of his dad....biggest chump ever. Stay forever the hell away from my Xmen titles!

@Gaston Thanks, and yeah flash is another DC character I like. I gotta say, there is always this respect I have for DC for really starting the whole super hero deal.

Marvels books have been stupid as of recently. Batman, Secret Six and a couple other series last year were really good. I generally lean towards Marvel but there stories for the most part were just horrid!

I feel Marvel will pick it up this year. DC took a lot of risk 2010 and came out on top but some of there stuff has me sensing another Crisis on the Horizon LMAO

@Dahamma. Batman Inc. just started, that'd be a nice jumping on point. It's about Bruce traveling the world training new heroes while a mysterious organization is upgrading several villains. The only books in the main story so far are Batman: The Return and Batman Inc. 1&2. So it shouldn't be hard to catch up.

The new Flash series just started as well, it's 9 issues in and pretty great. Cheers, hope I helped a bit.

my opinion the only thing dc does better than marvel is animation & video games.

but comics & movies,marvel rules.

@ minotauro

what important oscar has a dc movie won ?

heath ledger was a sympathy vote,he wouldn't of got it if he had lived.

also they haven't won best picture, best director, best actor or best actress ? so they've won jack shit.

Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk (Iron Man 2 sucked) versus Superman, Superman 2, Batman Begins, Batman, Batman Returns, Watchmen, V for Vendetta, The Dark Knight....pulled out the ones that people pan (altough I liked Superman Returns). Seriously, you think Marvel wins? 2 good movies versus 8 good ones (with many stating that Superman or Dark Knight are the greatest superhero movies ever).

Marvel leader in Entertainment? TV shows..... crickets chirping...I guess we could go back and name The Hulk, Spiderman (1970's), Captain America TV movies, Doctor Strange tv movie Nick Fury, Generation X versus Wonder Woman, Smallville, Superboy, Batman (1960's) Lois and Clark, The Flash. Way to Lead.

I could go to animation but that would just embrass you.

Could go to video games where I admit Marvel makes it closest to DC in this regard, but seeing how acclaimed Batman Arkham Asylum is, and how DCU Online is pretty popular (most common complaint is that its hard to find since it flies off the shelves), I still say advantage DC.
