DC's controversial reinterpretation of fan-favourite Wally West has sparked plenty of debate, with a big focus on the character's race-change. Well, DC aren't done putting a different spin on their characters. In the pages of Nightwing #30, the New 52 update of Helena Bertinelli was officially revealed. Now, Helena exists on Earth-2, as Helena Wayne with Bertinelli's name, but this is the main earth version of the character, who will be Dick Grayson's partner in the upcoming Grayson series. Sporting a completely redesigned outfit, courtesy of Tim Seeley, below are a few snippets from Nightwing #30 as well as Seeley's designs (the final one and a rejected one derived from 'Skull Girls' of Batman Inc.). Are you excited or worried to see this Helena?

the simpler outfit from that second image is way better. 70's club vibe is stupid, and if she's supposed to be Agent Grayson's (or whatever they're going with) partner, the more militaristic look would definitely make more sense than a shirt that must have lost all of its buttons.

Sorry but "No."

It's too 70s. We're in 2014. I don't know why whoever designed it this way made THIS decision.

Just my opinion.

They just ruined the third best female superhero of DC with this.
THE [frick] DC? IS OBAMA REALLY SO UP UR ASS ABOUT DIVERSITY THAT U JUST COMPLETELY CHANGED (Stereotypically) THE HUNTRESS?

The race changes don't bother me, the new 52 was a reboot in modern times, so that means there is more intergration and migration... The way people think is different as well, back when a lot of these characters were invented there were certain ways of thinking, that having minority or gay characters would have been seen as wrong.

So sometimes you have to change certain characters or they will fade away, and kids won't buy these comics as they don't see themselves or the world they live in represented.

However, I don't like the outfit, and the 'fro as they seems borderline stereotypical.

I remained silent when DC made Green Lantern Alan Scott queer. I remained quiet when they made a Mexican Green Lantern wear a robber's mask and pistol. I kept it on the down-low when they made Batwoman gay. But this? There's no reason for this. It's like they are deriving the look from the current Winter Soldier: Bitter March series with the '70's look. It's unnecessary. As well as stereotypical. This is why I read Scott Snyder's Batman and nothing else from DC. Morons, I swear. And I'm not defending Marvel. Marvel is just as asinine. Both companies need to clean house, starting with Marvel's Editor in Chief...

Helena Bertinelli's character is rich with history, and her backstory is truly touching. Its a character that shouldn't have been touched. This is like making Captain America of Arabic descent and a product of the Iraq War. Like jeez.

Was I the only one that thought the movie Austin Powers comes to mind?

Plus I can see she likes Bane.

I don't even know what I should say. I guess DC really likes doing some weird things these days.

Guys it's ok.
The white 80s garb is her undercover "disguise" that she wears while she's pretending to be part of a crazy gang.
Her actual new look is the second image.

This is freaking awesome!
I love the retro sexy agent look! And she looks like she could kick ass too.
PLUS that cross on her black shirt is an awesome tribute to her Huntress status :)

This is nice!

Not horrible, but not great either. The original costume did have weird elements after all (the boots raising her like 6 inches off the ground...)

Not bad. Making her African-Italian-American (jeez)... making her black is a good way to distinguish from Helena Wayne, since Helena Wayne spends a lot of time on Earth 52. It also confirms that she is most certainly not of the Wayne bloodline.
Nifty outfits, but she might wanna wear a bra with that shirt.

GET THE [frick] OUTTA HERE!! They literally just took the design of Gwendolyn from Saga and put it to Helena.
