Comic releases of 3/09/11

Hey all, this week is a special all DC edition of my comic book reviews; this is a rarity and probably won't see this too many times. It was a great week with DC, which I tend to keep to a few comics at best, there are too many titles for me that easy to hope into to but from the things I read, I enjoy each and every one of them.

Comics: Batman & Robin #21, Batman Inc. #3, Superboy #5, Wonder Woman #608, and Zatanna #10

DC Comics

Top Pick: Zatanna #10

Abridged Story: Z finally gets to the bottom of Oscar Hampel’s origins and it’s not what it seems. Oscar causes reality to warp and suddenly their roles are switched, Zatanna has become a puppet. Meanwhile Eldon looks into what has happened to Brother Night

Review: I have made mention that I have a love/hate relationship with this title. I love the character and world she is in, but at the same time, I hate when she is put into these situations where she is under some ones control. The prior arc had her nearly getting married and now she is a puppet, unable to control herself and at the mercy of a crazed man. Now granted its going to last long since the title is still going on, but still the fact matters that I hate seeing strong women such as her being reduced to a helpless object. Dini is a mad genius and I'm glad this arc is going to end this month on the 30th, because if I have to wait to see how see can overcome all this, I will go yzarc.

Artwork: The cover sets up perfectly what is going to happen, it has Zatanna with puppet strings controlling her. The rest of the issue is done really great, the big reveal of her as a puppet is interesting yet. I like the look of Shadowcrest, the magical mansion she uses every now and then.

Grade: Such a tug of war but I have to give it a good grade because it’s written so well. The artwork is fits well with the title and Puppet Zatanna looks cute. I give this issue an A

Quick Thoughts

Batman & Robin #21: A White Knight comes to Gotham to illuminate the town from its evil and sin. The artwork has some great moments. This issue gets a B-

Batman Inc #3: Finally released, Bruce is now in Argentina with their Batman called El Gaucho. It’s very long to read with tons of exposition but great seeing Bruce back in action. Artwork is spectacular. This issue gets an A-

Superboy #5: Kid Flash and Superboy have a race around the world and the winner is a surprise. The issue is setting up something big, nice to see a nice light hearted issue. Artwork is top notch as ever. This issue gets a B+

Wonder Woman #608: Diana battles the three returned Amazons. She gets her ass handed to her until she is saved by a very unsuspecting person. Story is improving and it seems the arc is coming to an end. Artwork looks good and we fight scenes are great. This issue gets a B-

That’s all for this week, short and sweet, next week is going to be really big week of releases. A new title will join my DC roster. Til then, Catch you all later, ComicCritic87 OUT!!!!

Didnt care much for Batman Inc.#3. Maybe its just me, but I felt really lost through the first half of the book. Batman & Robin #21 and Superboy #5 were both excellent however. But if we're talking DC pick of the week I give it to J.L. Generation Lost #21. Great cover, Great character insights and a pretty suprising ending. I'm gonna hate to see this title end.

how come we never see you give out low scores?

@weed....I have a bunch of times. Typically its when the issue is really mishandled. I gave one issue of Wonder Woman a very low score because it was a pointless issue. Same thing happened with Superman....I gave it a low score because it was a horribly done PSA in disguise

Nice reviews. I read Venom, and wow, I have to say it was great. If the series continues like this, it might just be the best Marvel series currently.

@Destroyer...thats good to hear....surprising since you and I are old school Eddie Brock Venom Die hards

@Xenix....if that were true I think that would be a great gimmick for the company, have each Inc member have a comic book in their respective countries
