COMICS: Francis Manapul And Brian Buccellato Discuss Bringing Reverse-Flash Into The New 52

As most remember, Reverse-Flash was responsible for bring forth the New 52 in the Flashpoint arc. Flash writers Francis Manapul & Brian Buccellato talked recently about bringing him into The New 52, costume updates, and if Barry would remember him from the events of Flashpoint.

Reverse-Flash is set to make his debut in an upcoming issue of The Flash. Previously, Flash writers Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato have promised that Reverse-Flash will be making his debut with a new look. What it sounds like is that you can say goodbye to the yellow costume. "This may be a bit of a knock against the classic versions, but MAAAAAN his costume was YELLOW. I'm sure some might hammer me for not liking the old costume, but I think our version looks WAY MORE badass and, dare I say, SCARY," Buccellato told Comic Vine. Manapul went on to say that updating his looks is more out of necessity for the story more than anything. Both also said that using pre-New 52 Reverse-Flash was never really a thought they entertained.

The events of Flashpoint, which set The New 52 off, will not be addressed when Reverse-Flash makes his return. Manapul said that Barry has no recollection of Flashpoint and that, "this will be his FIRST dealing with Reverse Flash." They even said that they are already planning on what to do after the Reverse-Flash arc is over.

Although the main arc of the story will start in issue 20, you can expect the first appearance of Reverse-Flash in issue 17. For the latest on all things comics make sure to check back here at CBM.

Damn, one of the reasons of why I love Reverse-Flash in the first place is because of his yellow costume. But, I have complete faith in this team. Can't wait to see it being revealed.

I don't know...the yellow just works really well with him, and so does the whole combination of all the colors. Not every villain can look menacing in yellow, but he's one of those who looks best in it, instead.

And not to mention how I really love the whole concept of a reversed Flash, which is also brought into a literal sense through the portrayal of the costume. Once again, I really can't wait to see what Manapul and Buccellato are going to do, and I believe whatever it is they'll do great, but I'm surely going to miss that yellow costume.

has this title improved at all,it was very hit & miss for me so i dropped the title.

believe i got to the issue where flash had to save some people on a ship,i think they introduced a new black character that flash had to take on.

his name is reverse flash, his colors are reversed. without that whats the point of him being reverse flash?

besides the stark contrast of yellow on dark backgrounds was pretty creepy in flashpoint

I dig the way Reverse-Flash looks. I am being cautiously optimistic when it comes to his new look. In the latest solicitation for the April book there is a hint of red lightening. So at least they are keeping that aspect.

I'm with NathimusPrime. It's makes the most sense. The only other way to do Reverse Flash is make him slow, fat and a woman.
Reverse Flash's costume was one of the things that really got me out of cartoons and into comics when I was a kid. I thought it was the shit. And it just made so much sense to me. It's even on of the cosplays I've been thinking about doing.

On a side note, what if they brought Wally back as Reverse Kid Flash?
Ooh, what a twist.

Maybe he won't have a costume? But will be all electrical and burnt and deformed and such?
Notice how he says "our version" instead of "our costume" or just "our's" (after he'd already said costume).
My bet? No costume at all.

How about somebody talking about giving The Flash his own film, thus bringing him to the big-screen that way instead of as a secondary (or less) character in the Justice League film..., how about that?... *smh*; *unfortunate*/:(

I actually enjoyed Flashpoint. Loved the merging of Vertigo & WildStorm into the DCU (even if it wasnt really)... but man, the New52 really has me indifferent. Some good books and some really good art but I'm still pissed I spent so much time reading up on so many years of DC just to have almost all of it wiped away and not even have clarity on what actually happened and what didnt in the new timeline.

I hope they make more Earth-One books~
