COMICS: Gatefold Cover for THE FLASH #19 Reveals the First Look at a Returning Villain

Newsarama has recently revealed the "surprise" gatefold cover for The Flash #19, which gives us our first full look at The New 52's version of a returning classic villain. Is it who you think it is? Well, there will surely be a spoiler, but you can check it out after the jump...

Yes, it's none other than the Reverse-Flash! It may not exactly be a surprise after all, as the villain has been a subject of much discussion due to his absence in The New 52 following the events of Flashpoint, but the creative team responsible for the title's run has ever since promised that the character will be making his long awaited debut in the upcoming issues of The Flash. As you can see in the image below, the new look of the villain remains faithful to Francis Manapul's concept art which was released a few weeks ago, although it still doesn't provide us with any hint of the character's presumably revised background in this new incarnation. Nonetheless, check out the Reverse-Flash's new look in the gatefold cover right below...

"What is the latest and greatest threat to The Flash and all those closest to him?"

Now that looks like a villain. I like this look much better than the Reverse Flashes original look.

The entire point of the old yellow and red costume was that it was a true exact opposite of the Flash's costume, hence the name "Reverse Flash". And does everything today have to look like something out of 1993? The '90s were hardly a high point in comics history that needs to be revisited. Meh!

For me when they made Bart Allen Flash in the Teen Titans future, a yellow suited flash no longer looks like a bad guy.

That costume design is cool but not-at-all recognizable as "Reverse" ANYthing. I'd've liked if they did that design with a red & yellow motif...Those veiny lines could've colored black -- woulda been much more creepy IMO. (Black veins...yeah.)

WTF? Looks like a Lava Speedster. Has no real ties to Reverse Flash. DC screws it up again, and if this really is Wally West?, It does no justice to the boy that was once an original Teen Titan.

@Joe, and this is Gusto's "partner"!

As nice as this series looks I still feel like it's a rehash of the stories Geoff Johns wrote, and the artstyle of Scot Kollins.
That being said I look forward to seeing the next creative team on the book.

"will there was a littler more yellow in it though. and i wonder if he will have memories of the events of Flashpoint."

Depends on if this version is Eobard Thawn or not. Given what he did to help set off the Flashpoint, and how it disconnected him from the time stream (making him a living paradox), there's no guarantee he got a Pandora-fied reset. And given how things ended up for him at the climax of Flashpoint, there's really no guarantee it's Thawn at all.

Im disappointed. Really. I knew it would be Black and Red but not like this. Not like this.

I sorry but this suit is still better. For villain who is brutal but looks like he would not be a hero at all. Reverse Flash always caught my eye because of his suit. I feel very bad about this. [frick] DC what are you guys thinking? R.I.P Reverse Flash.

Yup. DC screws the pooch again. Phil Jimenez's depiction of him in "Infinite Crisis" was chilling....this is more 90's CHEESE!

Reverse Flash - "HELMETS!!? HELMETS!!?? NOT ON MY WATCH MUAHAHAHAHAHA!"

But really I think it's a pretty f**king sweet design for a villain, I really do. But it's not the Reverse Flash. He was called the Reverse Flash because of his suit's colors, not sure what they'll call this guy now.

And I liked the yellow, it didn't scream "lame" to me, it just seemed...evil, idk it worked for me.

And I actually preferred Zoom from the "Blitz" storyline than the original Reverse Flash, I liked how they came up with the idea for his speed.

But I'll play this by ear I guess...
