COMICS: Instead of WATCHMEN Prequels, What I'd Like To See From DC Comics

Just me throwing out some alternative ideas I'd like to see DC do.

So back in 2010 DC released Superman earth one, I was very excited about this idea, J. Michael Straczynski and Shane Davis worked together on this project and when it the shelves it sold exceptionally well. Despite the fact that I was unhappy with JMS work on Wonder-woman and the regular Superman title his work on Superman earth one was a step in the right direction.

What I love about the earth one idea is the OGN format, it’s a one and done story, which means new readers, can easily come in and pick them up without the constraints of continuity, also veteran readers of the character came enjoy this fairly new take on celebrated character. The art was fantastic, the inking was spot on and the coloring and lettering was great, I was overall very pleased with the final product. So far a sequel is planned for Superman earth one and Batman earth one is set come out later on this year which I am also looking forward to.

So with that being said, instead of causing a big uproar by doing watchmen sequels, why not put more effort into creating more earth one books with other established characters? Wonder-woman earth one is a book I would love to read, she is a character that’s been very shaking as far as stories goes, she doesn’t have with Bats and Supes have, very memorable stories. Batman has The Long Halloween, The Dark Knight Returns, Year One and many more, Superman has All Star Superman, Birthright, Superman For All season and many more. Wonder-woman needs a story everyone can point to and say that is THE Wonder-woman story of the decade, something people can look back on and say that was fantastic I want more material like that from DC Comics.

You have some great creative talent on these "Watchmen Prequels", I would love to see that talent put in a direction that is more productive and original and will have a better out look. Brian Azzrello and Lee Bermejo gave us Joker and Lex Luthor Man Of Steel, Lee on his own gave us Batman Noel which was another great read. I’d love to see Lee and Azzrello explore more of the DC villains in the same format they did with Joker and Lex Luthor Man Of Steel. Sinestro, Deathstorke, Black Adam, Captain Cold, Black Manta just to name a few I’d like to see that creative team explore.

So I’m curious ladies and gents, what would like to see DC do instead of prequels to Watchmen?

I wasn't particularly crazy about Superman: Earth One, and volume 2 hasn't piqued my interest so far. However, I am excited for Batman: Earth One and I'd love to see something more done with Wonder Woman.
Truth be told, I'm extremely excited for Before Watchmen. I absolutely love Alan Moore and Dave Gibbon's original work, and the creative talent on the new mini-series is phenomenal.
But what I truly would like to see, is creativity. And I don't mean a new creative spin on the old characters. I mean making new characters that aren't legacy heroes or gimmicks that'll be irrelevant in five years. I want to see DC create a new, relevant, timeless character that my grandkid will be have on his lunchbox in 50 years.

More fantasy/mystery stuff like what they've been doing with All-Star Western, Swamp Thing and Animal Man, Demon Knights, and DC Universe Presents with Deadman and Justice League Dark.

It's one of the biggest advantages they have over Marvel and if they started focusing on those non-cape titles, it'd also help them expand into attracting a new audience. Not everyone likes Superheroes.

You have a valid point and I'm not a big fan of New 52 either because it's too excessive with characters that are not sure sellers (Static Shock anyone?)
