There were rumours not too long ago that John Stewart would soon be killed off, and the cover for Green Lantern Corps #22 certainly seems to indicate that he may be in mortal peril! Hit the jump for a first look at the issue ahead of its release this Wednesday.

As much as I like keeping to the originals..even Hal could die & I wouldn't care much.
I think John Stewart is a great GL & would add nice racial equality to Justice League if placed on the team.

It would be good for a black character NOT to have black in his codename.
Hope this is just an obstacle for John to battle through..killing him is weak DC.

don't kill him now... the new 52 is the first time he's been written well since mosaic. kill gardner, he's an idiot and was only elevated to a major character because dc needed to pander to the lowbrow losers of the era. same people that made schwarzeneggar a star.

keep rayner white, and keep him in his own damn book and away from the glc.

Kill off Baz but not John Stewart. Watching the JL cartoon and JLU is even more reason of why he was such a great character.

Kyle?? What is your problem? Kyle was the last well-written GL. Baz should go but you're high if you think they should kill off Kyle.

Fatal as in Fatality, who used to try to kill John for destroying her homeworld but became a Star Sapphire. I'm guessing she's over the violet lovey dovey stuff.

Oh and that last image looks like Salaak is going to go crazy and do something with the rings. Makes sense though he was always the most loyal Lantern to the Guardians and saw them as always right and for them to so deeply betray them it might [frick] with your head. Probably in the next few issues he will try to destroy the central battery or something along those lines in order to make sure the Guardians didn't leave anything behind.

P.S. Did Ganthet go all genocidal like his brethren or is still the only good Guardian.

kyle has sucked since the beginning. the fact that he stayed around this long surprises me.

as much as I dont care for baz, your statement applies to John Stewart in the 70's and 80's... and he ended up being decent. but it was very much an attempt at diversity and an attempt to be PC.

Get rid of Baz A-SAP!!! the hockey mask might be even more ridiculous than the domino mask.

Not to mention his ring is clearly prejudice lol...why didn't it just add a 7-digit serial number across his chest and glowy-green handcuffs to each wrist.

I'll even take more of the Redhead w/ daddy issues or even the Vagabond in All-white over the Terrorist/Hero/New Guy/Necromancer?????

If they kill John now that's just weak sauce.I've never had interest in Stewart and found his character often misunderstood by writers and boring until recently.He's finally coming into his own

I highly doubt they plan to kill him off, especially since in Green Lantern #21 he is shown to have a role in a future event. With that said I hope someone kills him off, he's a highly overrated character so sick of him.

@penditamarah - i believe he said that early on, he didn't think people would trust a black man in a mask; they'd accuse him of stealing the ring or something. remember, it was the early 70s and the situation was a big deal.
