COMICS: SUPERMAN And WONDER WOMAN Join Online Dating Site, Match.com

UPDATE: I kid you not, Superman and Wonder Woman have joined Match.com and you can read their profiles after the jump. Find out if you're compatible with the Man of Steel or the Amazon Princess.

I'm incredibly curious as to whether DC knew just how explosive the initial reveal of Superman and Wonder Woman sharing a kiss would be or whether they're simply riding the media storm that has since ensued. Either way, this is some much needed buzz and it looks as if this development between Supes and Wonder Woman will be marketed as aggressively as possible. Still, this is actually kind of funny on DC's part and I'd die of laughter if this actually makes it into the regular Justice League comic book series.

UPDATE: And thanks to USA Today, there's now confirmation that this kiss does indeed actually happen in the pages of the comic book and isn't simply cover bait.

Here's what DC is doing.

This is great promotion to non-comic reading fan.
Again I say to you.
DC wants fans outside of comic reading fans. They want to humanize their characters. This is silly.. but if it works, more power to them.

Ummm...you think the people on Match.com are going to pay any attention to this or take it seriously at all? How does putting comic character profiles in Match.com humanize them? They are still comic book characters. If they would have put up profiles with images of a real guy and gal as Clark and Diana, then I would go along with they are trying to humanize them...but they didn't. The only ones who will pay any attention are the comic book fan members on match. Everyone else will roll their eyes or not pay any attention to it.

It's just clever viral marketing, like how Millar advertised Kick-Ass using a real MySpace page. If it works and attracts non-comic readers then that's a plus for the industry and who are we to whine and cry?
