The anticipated Batman story arc has launched today in the pages of Batman #21. As I was reading, I strolled by quite a few easter eggs that take a poke at some of the most iconic things within the Batman mythology. Mild spoilers are included within this article so beware if you have not yet read this issue.

The Monarch Theater

In case you don't know, The Monarch Theater is where years ago, Bruce Wayne and his parents Thomas and Martha Wayne went to see the classic film, The Mark of Zorro and were eventually apprehended and shot in cold blood by Joe Chill on their way out of the theater. The theater can barely be recognized in the beginning. You can see an image from Batman #21 of The Monarch Theater down below:

Purple Gloves

In the caped crusader's very first appearance in the pages of Detective Comics #27, he was sporting a pair of purple gloves. In the only few pages Batman is in Batman #21, you can see he sports the classic purple gloves as seen below:

No, he wasn't talking to Aquaman.

The Boy Wonder's Symbol

Yes, Robin aka The Boy Wonder's iconic logo/symbol can be seen on a cap that Bruce Wayne sports through Gotham City. Take a look below:

The Giant Penny

In almost every Batman comic that shows the Batcave in an expansive view, this souvenir from Batman's battle with Joseph Coyne aka the "Penny Plunderer" can be seen. Here is it as seen in Batman #21:

The Batmobile

Last but not least, this most likely is the Batmobile. It looks pretty similar to Greg Capullo's early art of the Batmobile in the early issues of Batman. Take a look:

So, what do you think? Also sound off your thought about what you think about Zero Year so far and be sure to thumb it up.

Good stuff. Actually I thought that Zero year was a modern retelling of Batman since the New 52 changes. Year One is no longer cannon is it?

@BlackJack, I think you read me wrong, pal. I mean coming before it time wise. Like say for example, In the old DCU, I bought a chocolate bar in 1998, and in DCU Prime, I bought a chocolate bar in 1996. See what I'm saying, I didn't mean to say they were connected.

So they're saying Robin's been running around in a Gotham Rogues jersey basically?

@BlackJack, no worries, man.

@RexDartEskimoSpy, Who knows, Robin could have sewn the logo on to his suit or something.

Batman Begins and Year One did it best. This is pointless.

Dick Grayson, Tim Drak, Barbara Gordon actually need a Zero Year because their back history is mess now due to the reboot.

Of all DC characters, Martian Mangunter really meeds Year Zero and Year One!

I really liked the first issue. It felt different and kind of fresh.
