Glad he left Marvel (ruined World War Hulk and I didn't even look at AvX bc of him), but couldn't they have put JRjr on something other than Supes....

JRJR's art was great on the X-Men series in the 80s(check out 207-210 especially). I didnt like the later stuff around the 300s. From the above pic,it doesnt look half bad.

Superman really looks like Morrissey in that picture. Regardless, I'm really excited about this. Johns was fantastic on Green Lantern and he managed to give Aquaman the respect he deserved, and when Romita Jr.'s on point, /he's on point/ so I'm very optimistic about this.

Romita Jr. is a legend with a style that pays homage to great artists from the history of the medium. His style fuses Kirby, Miller, and his father flawlessly while staying completely his own. One of the few comic artists whose work still looks like comics, a true cartoonist and storyteller. Hope his Superman run is great but really can't wait to see him do Batman. Anyone else remember his Batman/Punisher crossover? He would be a master choice for a Batman artist. So sorry to see him leave Marvel. Any hate he receives is completely undeserved.

@Jollem

"his work on AvX was lazy and damn near amateur."

maybe he was just matching the lazy and amateur story?

That would just be fail, an artist is meant to enhance the story. Fear Itself wasn't a great story but Immonen held it down.

If you cover the body that doesn't look like Superman to me, could even pass for Frank Castle. JR Jr's faces all look the same, I get its his style but a little variation wouldnt hurt.

Though on closer inspection he seems to have toned down the lips & cheekbones thing he had going.

The lack of taste here is atrocious. This looks amazing. Bring the epic cosmic adventure back to Superman, Thorion style.

Almost a superb effort. I just don't get the need to mess with the hair. Just put it back to normal, and this would be perfect. The suit looks fantastic here.

I've been a fan of JRjr but I don't quite like his more recent style includes a lot of really loose line work. His work on Uncanny X-Men in the early/mid 80's was tight and even more recently on Spider-man. His more recent stuff, particularly Capt. America and Avengers was just too loose and the faces all began to look similar. The guy's a true professional and a legend. Can't dispute that.

I liked his work on Iron Man way back in the '70's and X-Men in the 80's. Current stuff, especially on KickAss is junk.
