DCGuy Presents: The All Time Most Underrated DC Movie....Animated one, that is.

WONDER WOMAN (2009 ANIMATED FILM)

This gem came out on March 3 2009, more than 5 years ago and it is to me hands down the BEST DC animated movie ever, WHY? I'll tell you why,

The Art & Animation
the style of animation and art of this movie is Wonderful, it's very vivid and it highlights multiple details on mutliple characters, unlike many other animated movies Wonder Woman and cast are not over buffed 6 pack rocking that have no neck or muscles in places that we don't even have muscles at heros/villains they are more of a normal yet  visibly strong characther with detailed strong arms and bodies but not buff, the colors are very faithful and easy on the eyes, with great details on many details of the characters and surroundings.

The Story
this is a GREAT telling og Wonder Womans origin, everything from a very well and logic connections to the gods of olympus, Steve trevor relationship, The Amazon way of life & thought even to the why is Wonder Woman's suit the way it is, the movie does a great job of not only showing that Wonder Woman is a great character in her own right but shows a lot of Steve trevor, The Amazons, Hades, Ares and multiple other characters.

IF we are soon to get a Wonder Woman movie as the rumors say, I must insist that THIS movie is the clear blueprint for that live action film, it has everything even to the subtle yet clear ending as to the future of Wonder woman, her Relationship with Steve, The Amazons and the outside world, heck! we even get Cheetah in the final moments of the movie a classic nod to not only a lot of the Wonder Woman history but justice to the character and it's roots. there are a few cons but the biggest one to me are the voice actors who are not the ones I grew up with and the fact that the movie while we see decapitation in it the gore & blood are clearly missing in many parts to give it that "real" feel but This is movie I suggest Everyone to see if you ever have any doubts that Wonder Woman has no great history, Origin, Universe on her own, Character or Potential.

On that note DCGuy is out! now if any of you are so kind to contribute to my growth in the Editorial World I would be very happy!

@SnikBub please do! it is a great animated film, packed with action and story development it is great.

@PAF very true, I've rewatched it a few times, just a great story overall that shows Wonder Womans importance and opportunities for stories

I've been wanting to see this one for a very long time, and now this article really just solidified it in my mind.

I feel like another one that people forget is The New Frontier. That one, in my opinion, was a jewel as well.

but now this is next on my list.

Thank you for your comment and support @Arrowhead77

@TheDarkKryptonian this one is just a tiny bit better than New frontier imo but new frontier is awesome and one of the best JL stories, it is on my top 3 list of JL stories. But I will re-watch the New frontier soon and I will whip up an editorial just for it, thanks for your comment & support.

@Darktower funny I saw Green Lantern first flight(again) and then I saw this one and I loved this one more, maybe it's because of the art & animation but trust me you will enjoy this film in multiple levels. please do watch it and thanks for the comment & Support.

I still own it. I was surprised a sequel was not made. The ending had me eager for one.

I definitely like the Wonder Woman animated film. I wish that DC/WB would do more films based on characters other than Superman/Batman/Justice League. Green Lantern: First Flight is also quite good, in my opinion.

My favorite, though, is probably Justice League: The New Frontier.

But is this one really underrated?

The problem is it's called Wonder Woman so the boys haven't seen it. She's just not popular. All those Green guys get better sales than her for one.

Most who've seen it liked it from what I've read.

I liked it too.

Aside:
Shame that Hades gets dressed up like the Devil once again. He rules ALL of the dead, which would combine both hell AND heaven, but they're not really equivalent in any way. The one causing the ruckus is usually Poseidon, dude needs some anger management classes. Or its Zeus himself being a jerk, or one of the ladies. Hades usually just gets dumped on for having the gall to fall in love, at least he's honest about his feelings and doesn't beat around the bush or turn people into animals to get eaten or something. Though kidnapping your bride is a total dick move, its kinda par for the course with the Greek gods.

DCGuy
DCGuy - 7/18/2014, 8:42 AM
This is a truly underrated film in the sense of a good WW story, the animation and art is very true as to what we could possibly see in a live action world, let's be real no one, not even the live action versions of actors playing bats, supes or others have the muscles they have on many of the more praised films, this film is underrated because we as a internet community never mention it, it's always the new ones or Under the red hood, and yet we bitch & moan about not getting WW movies or other characters sharing in the spotlight but WB/DC did a great job is giving WW a stand alone animated movie that can be done perfectly live action wise and leaves you wanting more something most animated movies don't do.
EhMaybeSays
EhMaybeSays - 7/18/2014, 8:56 AM
It made around $9mil I think.
DCGuy
DCGuy - 7/18/2014, 9:06 AM
@TheDudeRusty it was very successful considering it was a WW movie only, an origin movie, it had no clever or leading sub title like Wonder Woman: Rise of Ares or anything like that. it was truly good and deserves a new 52 remake maybe a little longer since it only lasts 75 mins, I say give it 130mins should be enough to give Wonder Woman a little more background to explain her getting settled into the new world, how she would hide her identity, her finding out about other heroes and such.
ThedamnBatman
ThedamnBatman - 7/18/2014, 9:20 AM
lmao, the ego the users have on this site is unparalleled :P

on th e point of the article, I agree, this was one of DC's best. don't think its underrated though, there is few who do not like this WW movie
DCGuy
DCGuy - 7/18/2014, 9:27 AM
@AxeEffect it's my thing :P Chill its a joke hehe, anyways to me it's underrated because mostly we only see or talk about New 52, Under The Red Hood, JL:Doom, Flashpoint,Batman Year One, JL: War as the best or more better of the DC animated movies, but this one is truly a gem a way above some of the ones I mentioned, yet we still bitch about how DC does not give spotlight to WW or other character when in fact they have multiple times, sure it was on animated movies but aren't animated movies more directed to us hardcore fans? aren't these films like directly for us who ask for them, I mean I don't remember any kids asking for movies like this.
Klone
Klone - 7/18/2014, 10:10 AM
@Phronesis

THANK YOU! I swore that I was going insane at not being able to grasp what is so good about this that people gush over and proclaim how a WW film in live action use this screenplay. ARE PEOPLE INSANE!!?!?!??
Klone
Klone - 7/18/2014, 10:12 AM
@DCGuy

We want a WW film DONE RIGHT. Don't give me that shit. You consider it great and underrated (though I believe it DESERVES to be forgotten) though I see it was one of the DC Animated Film's WORST entries, behind the abomination know as JLW. Let it be forgotten. Aside from being a terrible film to me, it nowhere near began to tap into the depth of the WW mythology. Oh, explaining what the costume is? Child's play compared to what would be done.
Klone
Klone - 7/18/2014, 10:21 AM
I considered the film to have horrendous dialogue and lines, unlikable characters and caricatures, poor development, the sexism stuff being executed horrible, contradicting its central theme (and I hated its central theme as well), barely even tapping the depth of the mythology and potential of WW, horrible and forced humor, using the whole Diana Prince disguise and overall PAINFUL to watch... yes, these are some of the reasons I hate it. If you love it great, I'm glad you fond some joy out of watching this unlike myself and others however some people disliking it isn't that much of an enigma.
DCGuy
DCGuy - 7/18/2014, 10:25 AM
ok @Klone so you're telling me that the appearance of 5 Gods, the explanation of her costume, on how Paradise island was kept secret, on how Diana was born, on how thought of men, on their games to determine who took steve back & this upon many other things are not good enough to explain the background of the Mythology of WW? are you crazy? what else do you want? the movie was suppose to be focused on WW anyways and like I said it should be given more time so more thing should be explained but for 70 mins they did a great job, I don't know if you like Buff fake bodies but the animation here was a little more real I mean look at Gal Gadot, look at UFC chicks like Ronda they don't look buff with 6 packs and neck muscles they look bulky but only a bit enough to notice force & strengths
ThedamnBatman
ThedamnBatman - 7/18/2014, 10:27 AM
@DCGuy, true true, it's everyones thing lol don't worry about it, it's not like I'm bashin u or anything :P

I agree yeah, the thing is though, I feel the time is right. Like now WB and DC are gonna give spotlight to WW and if it goes well, like if it's recieved well by the general public, you can be sure there will be a solo WW movie.

Also, one thing, I really didn't like how WW was portrayed in the JL:War. I mean really terrible, the solo WW was wastly superior to what they did with WW there.

Being said that, I think if the WW movie had a longer runtime, we could have gotten a much better flowing storyline, it felt incredibly rushed.

In the end, fans will probably get a taste with WW in BvS, then Justice league is gonna expand on it, and then we'll get a WW movie. There is a strong interest in strong independent woman leads atm on hollywood, so DC will want a piece from the cake no doubt
DCGuy
DCGuy - 7/18/2014, 10:39 AM
very true @AxeEffect, the WW solo film character is way better than the JL:War one, funny thing is I found myself questioning WW's Age multiple times during the movie but on War she seemed very adult but acted very stupid. I hope we get a very decent taste of WW on BvS but nothing too big just a big tease of what she can do.
Klone
Klone - 7/18/2014, 10:40 AM
@DCGuy

You exaggerate the depth considering some of those Gods were barely more than cameos. And my point is that you're basically citing this film did a great job at creating a deep mythology which I disagree with because what this film presented in terms of world building is child's play. Of course world building should always play a backseat to character, story and soul, though not that I thought this film had any of those qualities down well either other than the premise when you bastardize it.

I don't know if you like Buff fake bodies but the animation here was a little more real I mean look at Gal Gadot, look at UFC chicks like Ronda they don't look buff with 6 packs and neck muscles they look bulky but only a bit enough to notice force & strengths

WHEN did I harp on about any of that stuff!? WHEN! WHAT was the point of that rant, I mean which one of my points is that meant to be a response to!?
Klone
Klone - 7/18/2014, 10:42 AM
just a big tease of what she can do

I assume you're referring to fighting abilities or physical feats? Whilst those are important, why does DC at times feel the need to make her character, essence and development play a backseat to this shit?
DCGuy
DCGuy - 7/18/2014, 11:40 AM
@Klone but they did justice to the mythology by mentioning and making it even if it was a small part but at last part of the story.

she doesn't play backseat to anyone in the movie we get multiple character development in any way
shabat
shabat - 7/18/2014, 12:04 PM
I enjoyed this movie. I wouldn't say it's the best DC animated, but it did a good job in telling the story in the amount of time it had. I have heard people say this could be translated to film, and it possibly could.

@Klone, I've heard you say before you've written stuff for Wonder Woman before. I'd be interested in reading some of that to understand where you're at with some of your arguments. You seem to be a pretty loyal Wonder Woman fan, so I was just curious.
TheWorldsFinest
TheWorldsFinest - 7/18/2014, 12:07 PM
Wonder Woman is definitely underrated, but in my opinion, it's not the most underrated. That title goes to Justice League: Doom. I think it's one of the best, and I don't see too many people talking about it. The voice cast is on top of it's game. The animation was pretty good. And the action and story is the best of the best.
