Nick Spencer has been killing it on Amazing Spider-Man, and "Last Remains" is proving to be one of the most exciting stories revolving around the web-slinger for quite some time. What we know so far is that the demonic Kindred is Harry Osborn, and intent on making Peter Parker pay for his past sins. However, the last time we saw Harry...well, he was perfectly normal.

The character returned following the events of "One More Day," with the explanation being that he too had risen from the dead after dying and spent years hiding in Europe. Since then, he's put his dark past behind him, but the same clearly can't be said about Kindred. Well, in today's Amazing Spider-Man #52.LR, Norman Osborn hints that the Harry we've spent the past few years with isn't Harry.

It seems likely he'll be revealed as a clone given how much of the 90s Norman spent toying with that. Kindred, meanwhile, decimates Peter and forces him to watch as his fellow spider heroes destroy New York City and each other. As the possessed Spider-Gwen throws Miles Morales to his death, Spider-Man - who has been mentally tortured by Kindred for months - makes a shocking plea.

Kindred frees those heroes, and they're eventually helped by Doctor Strange. The Sorcerer Supreme takes them to Spider-Man's Dreamscape. Now, bear in mind that in "One More Day," the hero agreed to give up his marriage to Mary Jane Watson in exchange for his Aunt May's life.

Recently, though, we've begun to see that deal fall apart. Peter is planning to propose to MJ and May has cancer, so it definitely feels like his love for his one-time wife is causing that deal to crumble. Mephisto won't be happy about that, and that could go some way in explaining Kindred's mission. Regardless, "One More Day" also saw Peter meet the daughter he and MJ would then never have.

Well, it looks an awful lot like the young readhead is in his Dreamscape...with spider powers!

The biggest shock comes at the end of Amazing Spider-Man #52 when Kindred makes good on his deal with Spider-Man by killing the web-slinger. Spidey has died before, but this looks like a pretty definitive demise, and it seems Peter Parker is about to be dragged straight into Hell by Harry Osborn...

Everyone is so sure that Spencer is going to undo OMD, but I don't trust that. Marvel has teased us about that for nothing before (remember Renew Your Vows?) and they have a giant hate-boner for married Spider-Man. Maybe Spidey finds out about the deal or something, but they will contrive a way for it to stand at the end of the day.

@Superheromoviefan - lame gimmick? It sets up a grudge match between Peter and Mephisto that the fans have waited 15 years for. You're clueless.

@ItsMilesMorales - the answer to fixing the biggest stain in Spider-Man history. Idiot.

Almost no death is definitive in comics.

I WANT to get my hopes up that Marvel is actually going to commit to fixing OMD and let Spencer make some permanent changes to Spidey's status quo. But I've been burned too many times before to have any sort of hope they're going to start taking their characters seriously again. It'll all go back to normal until the next big event in 6 months.

@SerKurtWagner - dude this is it. It's been 15 years! It's ok to be happy about it. No one here reads comics anyways so they don't understand what it means to undo OMD.

@Makiveli21 - I guess the contemporary era of comics just has me cynical. Every six months they bring out a new "shocking event" that's supposed to shake up the status quo, but then its irrelevent within a year.

It's not what I expected, but it's really that shocking either. Fits with the story, but in no way is death permanent

I've stopped collecting Spider-Man comics since they retconed Gwen into cheating with Norman.

@HeeroG - this is retconning that hopefully too so you should probably stop hating

And this is one of the reasons I don’t buy anymore. OMD and the whole Gwen fiasco....
Makiveli21
Makiveli21 - 11/12/2020, 6:12 AM
@lawndart - is being fixed in this book... it's not "more OMD" its "fixing OMD" so it tells a better story. You're clueless.

Literally the only thing I hear about Marvel comics each year is what major hero died or what major hero turned evil.

Sometimes I think Peter Parker was created just so writers can see how messed up they can make his life. 🤷‍♂️

Since the, he's put his dark past behind him, but Kindred is very much in a villain.

???
What?

This article needs an editor.
