COMICS: AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Finally Gets A New Creative Team In The Form Of Nick Spencer And Ryan Ottley

Dan Slott has been in charge of the wall-crawler's adventures for a decade but a new creative team is coming to Amazing Spider-Man in the form of Nick Spencer (Secret Empire) and Ryan Ottley (Invincible).

Marvel is looking to give its Universe a "Fresh Start" this summer (less than a year after the last "fresh start," of course) and that includes a new creative team for Amazing Spider-Man. Dan Slott has told many stories of varying quality over the past decade but writing duties are now being passed to Nick Spencer, the scribe behind the somewhat controversial Captain America and Secret Empire storylines.

"I think that a lot of what I'll be doing is reconnecting Peter with some very classic, quintessential elements of the story that fans and readers are going to recognize," he reveals, promising a back to basics approach for the iconic comic book character this June. "And it's exciting to bring the character back to basics and, at the same time, Dan has obviously had one of the best runs on the character ever, and we're certainly going to honor the things that he's done and build from there."

"The best Spider-Man, his personal [trouble] is mirroring his troubles in costume, and the two stories are feeding each other and being Spider-Man always comes with considerable costs to Peter," Spencer continued. "It's always getting in the way of his life. So, to me, it's kind of a dance between those two things at this stage." So, it sounds like he's taking the right approach to the hero!

Spencer is going to be joined by Ryan Ottley, the artist best known for working on Image Comics' Invincible series from The Walking Dead writer Robert Kirkman. He seems like a perfect fit for Spidey's world and based on the cover art below, we can expect a lot of familiar faces to show up. Interestingly, there's no sign of a love interest for Peter Parker; will it be Mary Jane or someone else?
